After the Tax Day protests died down, members of the Tea Party movement took stock of the rallies nationwide and reported that more than 2 million people attended them.

Tea Party Patriots (TPP), a grassroots organization that subscribes to the principles of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets, also revealed that 2,000 groups are now voluntarily affiliated with it.

"The Tea Party principles have steadily attracted a growing percentage of Americans to the movement," said Sally Oljar, TPP state coordinator for Washington.

TPP was founded in March 2009 as a support and networking umbrella for Tea partiers, 9/12, As a Mom, Constitution Party, We the People and other liberty oriented groups across the nation. It stresses its strictly non-partisan nature.

In fact, earlier this week Phillip Dennis, founder of the Dallas Tea Party, sought to dispute the belief that politicians such as Sarah Palin represent the movement.

In an article written for CNN Dennis said that Palin and many other politicians from both sides of the aisle use the Tea Party banner to raise money or expand their political base.

"The real center and strength of the movement [are] the people who work full-time jobs, have family responsibilities and make time to manage and grow their own group," he wrote on the CNN website.
