Mexico consulate employees robbed of 'large sum'

Two Mexican consulate employees taking a "large amount of money" to deposit were robbed Wednesday in the parking structure of a Wilshire district bank, police said.

The robbery occurred about 4:20 p.m. near the Bank of America branch at 3055 Wilshire Blvd., near South Virgil Avenue, said Officer Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

No amount of money was provided, but one reporter who asked if it was more than $20,000 was told it was "much larger than that."

Police were looking for two gunmen, Smith said.

One was 5 feet 9 inches tall to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a light complexion and wearing a green hat.

The other was only described as 5 feet 5 inches tall.

Police were investigating the possibility that the robbery was an inside job, Smith said.

No one was injured.
