    More job losses: Boycott Hershey's

    February 20, 2009

Hershey closes Pennsylvania factory, moves production of Peppermint Patties to Mexico

    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Production of York Peppermint Patties and other candy brands is coming to an end at The Hershey Co. plant in Reading, Pa.

After 23 years in Reading, the chocolate maker is closing the plant Friday and moving production to a new factory it has built in Monterey, Mexico. It will mean the loss of 300 jobs in the southeastern Pennsylvania city.

The plant also makes 5th Avenue and Zagnut candy bars and Jolly Rancher hard candies.

The nation's largest candy manufacturer announced two years ago that the plant would close as part of a wider move by Hershey to eliminate 1,500 jobs and one-third of its existing production lines, shifting more manufacturing to contractors in the United States.

Some workers will stay on for a few more weeks to close the plant.

I thought Hershey had sold out Americans a long time ago. Just what this area needs...more job loss. Unless you live in this area, you don't realize the devastation the loss of manufacturing jobs has caused. It's just as bad as the devastation in California caused by illegals. When someone is online asking for help from those "back east" I respond by asking them if they drive a Japanese car and then I ask them where they were when we were pleading for help and asking people to buy American.

You are right PatrioticMe. This move has been in the works for some time now. And there have been other layoffs as well.

I saw a list somewhere when Hershey first turned traitor of candies that are still made in this nation and some made in, I believe, Europe. I would much prefer to buy from Europe than either china or mexico. Does anyone have that list here?

They can thank Senator Arlen Spector (R-PA) but I am sure they will vote him back in, in 2010...since he went against the Republican party he could have at least made a deal to get the e-verify back in the stimulus...the stupid traitor!

No more Hersheys...I did not need it anyway!
