At least 31 people were shot, six fatally, between Friday afternoon and Monday morning, making it the most violent yet in 2018, according to data kept by the Tribune.

That includes an 11-hour period from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning when 18 people were shot, three fatally.

Compared with this time last year, 2018 has had both fewer shootings and homicides, according to Tribune data. There have been 141 people shot and 25 people killed in 2018, while 211 people were shot and 41 people were killed at this point in 2017.
During the violent weekend there was an officer-involved shooting, several multi-victim shootings and in one incident, a 5-year-old was shot. Two people also were shot in separate incidents while riding public transportation.

The first homicide of the weekend happened about 6:35 p.m. Friday in the South Shore neighborhood, police said. A man, 29, was shot in the head while standing outside a liquor store.
Early Saturday, police officers shot and injured a man who was attacking a woman in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
The officers were initially called to the home for a report of a domestic disturbance. After the shooting, the man and woman were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions were stabilized.
Four people were killed between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

During that time, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot while standing at a bus stop outside the 63rd Street Red Line Station, police said. He was arguing with a man who fired the shots.
In a double homicide, two men, 25 and 19, were shot around 3 a.m. Sunday in the Belmont Central neighborhood, police said. The men were walking when someone fired at them from a black vehicle, police said.
A 41-year-old man was also fatally shot on the Far South Side while driving in the West Pullman neighborhood about 2:20 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Early Monday, a man, 28, was found fatally shot inside a vehicle in the West Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

When I read the headline, I kind of figured it was Chicago.
