The barbaric Islamic State militant group has beheaded an American journalist who was missing for nearly two years, according to a gruesome video the group released Tuesday.

The victim is purported to be James Wright Foley, a 40-year-old photojournalist who was last seen in Syria on Thanksgiving Nov. 22, 2012 while working for Agence France-Presse.

The shocking video shows Foley dressed in orange and on his knees outside in a deserted area. His head is shaved. Behind him is a man covered head to toe in black. It’s titled “A Message to America.”

“Any attempt by you, Obama, to deny Muslims liberty and safety under the Islamic caliphate, will result in the bloodshed of your people,” an ISIS person in the video says.

The video is a warning to the US to stop its airstrikes in Iraq. The US has been bombing areas throughout the Mosul Dam and cleared the way for Kurdish fighters to reclaim the key infrastructure Monday.

In the video, Foley reads what appears to be a coerced statement: “I call on my friends, family members and loved ones to rise up against my real killers, the U.S. government.”

ISIS had warned the US of the potential murder in an earlier video saying “we will drown all of you in blood” in retaliation for US airstrikes that helped Iraqi and Kurdish forces re-take a key dam in Iraq.

Now another journalist is reportedly in danger. The Islamist State is threatening to kill Time journalist Steven Joel Sotloff unless the US backs off.

Foley was a freelance journalist when he was kidnapped in Syria. He’s originally from Rochester, New Hampshire. His family had set up website to plead for Foley’s return.

”We want Jim to come safely home, or at least we need to speak with him to know he’s okay,” family patriarch, John, wrote in a statement in 2013.

“Jim is an objective journalist and we appeal for the release of Jim unharmed. To the people who have Jim, please contact us so we can work together toward his release.”


Foley, one of five children, had been captured previously in Libya for 45 days.

He studied journalism at Northwestern University.

A Turkish reporter tweeted that he was one of the last people left with Foley in Aleppo as the Assad regime was taking over on August 2012.

“When I was looking for cover from Syrian regime’s jets, he was running w his camera to capture jets’ diving. Brave #jamesfoley #RIP,” tweeted @WashingtonPoint.

The White House has yet to offer comment on the video. Foley’s family urged patience.

“We know that many of you are looking for confirmation or answers,” the Find James Foley Facebook wrote: “Please be patient until we all have more information, and keep the Foleys in your thoughts and prayers.”

BAGHDAD/BEIRUT (Reuters) - Islamic State insurgents released a video on Tuesday purportedly showing the beheading of U.S. journalist James Foley, who had gone missing in Syria nearly two years ago, and images of another U.S. journalist whose life they said depended on U.S. action in Iraq.

The video, titled "A Message To America," was posted on social media sites. It was not immediately possible to verify its authenticity.
Foley, who has reported in the Middle East for five years, was kidnapped on Nov. 22, 2012, by unidentified gunmen. Steven Sotloff, who appeared at the end of the video, went missing in northern Syria while he was reporting in July 2013.

A Twitter account set up by his family to help find him said early on Wednesday: "We know that many of you are looking for confirmation or answers. Please be patient until we all have more information, and keep the Foleys in your thoughts and prayers."
The White House said that U.S. intelligence agents were working to verify the authenticity of a video.

The Islamic State had not previously executed American citizens publicly. The video was posted after the United States resumed air strikes in Iraq for the first time since the end of the U.S. occupation in 2011.

The Sunni militant group has declared a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria in areas it controls.

The video opened with a clip of U.S. President Barack Obama saying he had authorized strikes in Iraq.

"Obama authorizes military operations against the Islamic State effectively placing America upon a slippery slope towards a new war front against Muslims," words appear in English and Arabic on the screen.

A person identified as James Foley and wearing an orange outfit is seen kneeling in the desert as a man in black dress with a black mask stands beside him, holding a knife.

"I call on my friends family and loved ones to rise up against my real killers, the U.S. government, for what will happen to me is only a result of their complacency and criminality," the kneeling man says.

The man in the mask speaks in a British accent and says: "This is James Wright Foley, an American citizen, of your country. As a government, you have been at the forefront of the aggression towards the Islamic State."

"Today your military air force is attacking us daily in Iraq. Your strikes have caused casualties amongst Muslims. You are no longer fighting an insurgency. We are an Islamic army, and a state that has been accepted by a large number of Muslims worldwide."
Following his statement he beheads the kneeling man.

At the end of the video, words on the side of the screen say "Steven Joel Sotloff" as another prisoner in an orange jumpsuit is shown on screen.

"The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision," the masked man says.

Foley, a freelance reporter, had been covering Syria’s civil war for GlobalPost. In 2011, he was held for 45 days by forces loyal to former Libyan leader Muammar Gadaafi.

Sotloff is also a freelancer journalist with published stories in Time Magazine and Foreign Policy. He has worked in Syria, Libya and Yemen.

White House spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said: "We have seen a video that purports to be the murder of U.S. citizen James Foley by ISIL. The intelligence community is working as quickly as possible to determine its authenticity.

"If genuine, we are appalled by the brutal murder of an innocent American journalist and we express our deepest condolences to his family and friends."

Islamic State also released another video on Tuesday that gave the strongest indication yet it might attempt to strike American targets.
The video with the theme "breaking of the American cross" boasts Islamic State will emerge victorious over "crusader" America.
It follows a video posted on Monday, warning of attacks on American targets if Washington struck against its fighters in Iraq and Syria.
The latest footage spoke of a holy war between the al-Qaeda offshoot and the United States, which occupied Iraq for nearly a decade and faced stiff resistance from al-Qaeda.

Islamic State's sweep through northern Iraq, bringing it close to Baghdad and in control of the second city, Mosul, drew U.S. air strikes on the country for the first time since the end of the American occupation in 2011.

U.S. air strikes have helped Kurdish peshmerga fighters who held parts of the north regain some territory captured by the Sunni militants.

Unlike al-Qaeda, Islamic State has so far focused on territorial gains designed to eventually establish a full-blown Islamic empire.
Tuesday's video shows an American soldier crying over the death of a comrade as the Christian hymn Amazing Grace can be heard.

When ISIS reportedly released a video Tuesday of one of its members gruesomely beheading American photojournalist James Foley, the terrorist group had a message for the U.S. government:

…In the video, entitled “Letter to America,” ISIS terrorists force him to read a letter urging Americans to rise up against his “real killer, the U.S. government.” In addition, Foley says the U.S. airstrikes against ISIS “hammered the final nail into [his] coffin.”

ISIS is also threatening to kill Time journalist Steven Joel Sotloff unless the U.S. stops attacking them, stating, “the life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision.”
Responses of anger, indignation and calls for action have been seen around the world, including from British Prime Minister David Cameron:

According to the Washington Post, Prime Minister Cameron’s office said he is “cutting short a family vacation and returning to London to chair emergency meetings on Iraq and Syria.”
Meanwhile, President Obama has not yet responded to the shocking news. After returning to Washington D.C. for two days, the President spent Tuesday evening traveling back to Martha’s Vineyard to finish up his two-week vacation, which has so far produced pictures like this gem:




While the White House’s insistence that this is a “working vacation” is likely true, and President Obama might just be taking his time to come up with an appropriate response to James Foley’s death, the contrast between the two leaders’ choices says a lot.
UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron at least “gets it” and knows the only thing that sadistic terrorists understand is overwhelming force. If Obama thinks he can handle ISIS with his usual brand of soft diplomacy, he’ll wind up dancing without a partner.

The day of Moderate Islam is over. If Muslims who claim that what they see happening around the world is not Islam, then they need to prove it by action.
The list of atrocities continues to add up. The beheading of journalist James Wright Foley is only the latest in a long line of atrocities. When we see images of the holocaust, we ask why the German people didn’t rise up in protest against the monster Adolf Hitler.

There’s no way to ignore the fact that Islam is a detestable religion. If there are moderate Muslims who take offense at that evaluation, then I suggest that you take to the streets by the millions and prove me wrong.
“While it is true that most Muslims are not suicide bombers, or engage in decapitating the kafir and posting their pics on Youtube, Islam itself is a political ideology that is fundamentally about bloodshed, killing, terror and jihad. While there may be ‘nice’ Muslims, Islam is not nice.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama pledged Wednesday to continue to confront Islamic State militants despite the beheading of an American journalist in Iraq, standing firm in the face of the militants' threats to kill another hostage unless the U.S. military changes course.


Obama's remarks affirmed that the U.S. would not change its military posture in Iraq in response to the killing of journalist James Foley. Since the video was released, the U.S. military has pressed ahead by conducting nearly a dozen airstrikes on Islamic State targets in Iraq.
Calling the Islamic State a cancer, Obama forcefully condemned the group that seized territory in Iraq and Syria, and he called for a vigilant, relentless and global effort to curtail an organization he said is torturing, raping and murdering thousands of people in "cowardly acts of violence."
"ISIL speaks for no religion," Obama said, using an alternative name for the Islamic State. "Their victims are overwhelmingly Muslim, and no faith teaches people to massacre innocents. No just god would stand for what they did yesterday and what they do every single day."
Obama spoke at a media center set up by the White House on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, where Obama is in the second week of his annual summer vacation.

U.S. officials have confirmed the authenticity of a gruesome video in which an ISIS terrorist beheaded American journalist James Foley.


Today, Foley's family emotionally spoke out about Jim, who they described as strong, courageous and compassionate, and called for mercy for others who have been captured by ISIS, including American journalist Steven Sotloff.

"We're very proud of Jim. He was a courageous, fearless journalist, very compassionate American. Really the best of America," his mother said. "And he always hoped that he would come home. That was his hope. And he sustained all the others who were with him with that hope."

His father added that they know from the video that his last words were wishing he had more time to see his family.

I don't know maybe I am jaded but I really think they are bound and determined to get us into another war or so it seems to me.. I trust nothing from any of these people.These people don't even act like it is real!!!

ISIS Terrorists Behead American Journalist, James Foley. Islamic State of Iraq and Levant terrorists show the beheading of an American photojournalist who has been missing since 2012. The group claims the beheading is a message to President Obama to end the American intervention in Iraq.
James Foley born in 1973 was a photojournalist who had worked for several news organizations. He was kidnapped while covering the conflict in Syria in 2012.
Islamic terrorists of ISIL has also indicated that their next victim will be Steven Joel Sotloff, a journalist who worked for TIME, The National Interest and Media Line, unless the U.S. stops its attacks on them.
We should be united as Americans not fighting a 1960′s race war. We are all Americans What we have coming is far more serious than anybody can imagine. Yesterday, ISIS The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria beheaded an America journalist name James Foley. They have a New York Times editor who will be next. The individual that did the beheading speaks with a British dialect. He was recruited to join the Islamic State.
This group has been committing genocide against Christians since 2013. While thousands of Iraqi Christians were stranded on Mount Sinjar Obama was on the golf course. ISIS beheaded, raped and enslaved children. Never have we ever seen such evil. Many who witness these Atrocities compare them to Hitler. We have chaos going on in the Middle East. Many Americans think this will never affect them. I have news for you. ISIS is in America. They primary objective is to take over the United States and Europe. Obama has made this very easy with refusing to get involved and not securing our borders. These terrorist are crossing our American borders.
The leader of ISIS Abu Bakr al Baghdadi was in U.S. custody at our now-closed Camp Bucca. He was released by President Obama from the Iraqi prison in 2009, and since then he’s had time to form a plan and collect and train an army of terrorists – an estimated 10,000 men. His last words as he walked out of camp Bucca “I’ll see you in New York.”

I have debated about posting pictures of the American Jounralist beheaded by ISIS. I think people should remember the life of this journlist. I asked myself if this was me would I want this posted? I would want posted whatever it took to find and kill these animal savages. Americans are too asleep. Many haven’t a clue what’s going on in the middle east. You may ask why should we care? You should care because this same group that beheaded our American is right here in US. If you don’t believe me, they say they are here. The borders are Not secure.
According to a count by the New America Foundation, eight people from the United States have been indicted with crimes related to trying to join ISIS or the Nusra Front. UK Daily Mail A young jihadist from Britain has taunted the U.S. government with sickening messages on Twitter praising the brutal execution of kidnapped American photojournalist James Foley. Nasser Muthanna, 20, sent a number of tweets mocking U.S. efforts to defend Iraq’s Yazidi minority from genocide at the hands ISIS militants, saying they ‘can’t even protect their own citizens’.

The father of the Cardiff-raised militant – who appeared in a chilling ISIS recruitment video earlier this year and travelled to Syria with his brother Aseel, 17, and friend Reyaad Khan, 20 – has described Foley’s videoed execution as being ‘like something out of the dark ages’.


Muthanna’s provocative messages come amid a global Twitter campaign to starve media-savvy ISIS militants of the publicity they desperately crave by using the hashtag #ISISMediaBlackout. Muthanna is believed to be among at least 500 highly radicalized British Muslims fighting for ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

In the shocking footage of Foley’s beheading with a small knife, his executioner addresses the camera in what appears to be a London or southern English accent. The video prompted Foreign Secretary Phillip Hammond to vow Britain would ‘oppose ISIS with every breath in our body’, adding that British troops could be sent to help train Iraqi government soldiers to counter the growing threat ISIS militants pose.


The warnings appeared to have had little impact on Islamists online however, who gleefully shared sickening images and videos of Foley’s execution – which they branded ‘hilarious’.

Muthanna was among those leading the taunts, tweeting: ‘So America wants to protect Yezidis from genocide but can’t even protect their own citizens from getting decapitated #AmessagefromIStoUS.’ He also retweeted other messages saying they were proud’ of the British executioner.


The message said: ‘I am so proud of that foreign muhajir akh, British, who climbed the ranks and shook America to it’s knees.’


He was joined by other ISIS members and sympathisers – among them a woman calling herself Haritha, who claims to be the ‘wife of a martyr’ and living in ISIS’ self-declared caliphate – known as the Islamic State, which stretches from north-west Syria to central Iraq.

Posting a disturbing image of the moment the executioner begins cutting Foley’s throat with a small knife, the attention-seeking Islamist said: ‘If this doesn’t bring a bit of comfort and ease to your heart then #checkyourself’.
