New car sales up in California for 14th quarter

Sales of new cars are stronger in California than for the nation as a whole. New car sales in the state are up 26.3 percent year-to-date, compared to 14.5 percent for the U.S.

New vehicle registrations increased 34.2 percent in California during the third quarter, compared to third-quarter 2011, according to the California New Car Dealers Association.

The bump in sales marks the 14th consecutive quarterly increase for new car sales in the state. New car sales are predicted to reach close to 1.6 million this year.

Sales of new cars are stronger in California than for the nation as a whole. New car sales in the state are up 26.3 percent year-to-date, compared to 14.5 percent for the U.S., according to the association.
“Pent up demand, easing credit conditions and strong trade-in values are fueling new car and truck sales,” association president Peter Welch said in a news release.

The California New Car Dealers Association represents close to 1,300 dealers.
