New Survey Finds That African-American Voters Strongly Support Voter ID

While Democrats including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris used the occasion of civil rights icon Martin Luther King’s birthday to push a federal voting reform bill that would decimate state-passed integrity measures, a new survey finds that most Democrat voters disagree with them when it comes to a key security measure: Voter IDs.
During a speech to commemorate King over the weekend, Biden declared to the country that voter ID laws are an “assault on our freedom to vote,” especially for minorities.
But a few days before he spoke, a survey out of Michigan revealed that three-fourths of those surveyed agreed with voter ID requirements, including 79 percent of black respondents.
“A majority of African Americans in Michigan support voter ID because they understand it is the surest way to validate a voter’s identification,” Christopher Arps, president of Americans for Citizen Voting, the group that commissioned the poll, said in a statement “People who look like me know how important the vote is, and we want to protect it.”
Michigan Wire added:
An overwhelming majority of Michigan voters are in favor of increased election security, including measures requiring photo identification to vote, a recent poll by the Remington Research Group found.
Results from the poll likewise indicate overwhelming support for the Secure MI Vote ballot initiative, offering several election security provisions and underscoring the necessity for an official ID photo to vote.
“The people of Michigan have a right to decide their own election rules and processes,” Arps said last week. “Unfortunately, just today the U.S. House of Representatives passed so-called voting rights legislation that would block the clear will of Michigan voters and those in other states. And the Senate threatens to change its rules to pass this slap at voters.”
Nevertheless, the Biden administration, as well as congressional Democrats, is pushing ‘voting rights’ legislation that would overturn state voter ID requirements and implement a host of additional requirements including no-excuse absentee ballots and the use of unmonitored drop boxes, all of which Republicans say make conditions ripe for massive vote fraud.
Other recent surveys have similarly found that the majority of Americans prefer more secure elections including voter ID requirements.
“A recent national survey found that four key election reforms are supported by more than 80% of voters,” pollster Scott Rasmussen recently wrote, spotlighting the disconnect. “These include removing people who have died or moved from voter registration lists; requiring all voters to show photo ID before casting a ballot; wanting all ballots received by Election Day; and, having all voting machines made in the United States.”
Also, the latest Rasmussen Reports survey on the issue found that 78 percent of blacks support voter ID.
These results push back on claims by Biden and Democrats that voter ID laws amount to “Jim Crow 2.0” and serve as impediments to voting, a claim that is also being refuted by former NFL great and freshman GOP Rep. Burgess Owens of Utah, a man who actually lived through more discriminatory times in America.
“Black Americans, just like Italian Americans or Polish Americans, all we want is fairness,” Owens, a Utah Republican, said in a Fox News interview Monday.“We want to know that our vote counts. To say that we’re the only race of the whole country… that if we have to get an ID that we cannot pull it off – I cannot articulate how demeaning that thought process is,” he continued.
“Sadly we have too many black people that go along with it,” Owens added. “They’d rather have power for themselves than to empower our race.”
As for the civil rights icon, King “was not about dividing us. He was about unifying us. And it was because, at the end of the day, his source was God,” Owens noted.
