NY-Rep. Rangel Hides Wealth From Public
Rep. Rangel Hides Wealth From Public

The New York congressman under investigation for tax evasion, using his office to raise money from corporations with business before him and illegally accepting multiple rent control apartments has for years concealed his true wealth.
It simply marks the latest of numerous corruption scandals in the lengthy political career of Democrat Charles Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
It turns out that the veteran lawmaker, who has represented Harlem in the U.S. House for three decades, is at least twice as wealthy as he originally reported on congressional disclosure forms.
Since the House Ethics Committee finally decided to investigate Rangel’s many violations last fall, the congressman corrected the huge asset omission fearing it would be discovered in the course of the probe.
Now his amended disclosure statement for 2007 reports new assets worth between $647,000 and $1.38 million, substantially raising the value of his holdings.
Lying is par for the course for Rangel, who has committed a series of legal and ethical lapses in his storied career.
Among them are violating New York state and city regulations by accepting several rent stabilized apartments from a Manhattan developer, using congressional stationery to solicit money for a center named after him and failing to pay taxes for two decades on rental income from a Caribbean villa.
Ironically, the House committee he chairs writes the federal tax code.
A few years ago Rangel got in trouble for proposing tax legislation that would greatly benefit his campaign contributors and for lying about secretly accepting an all-expense paid family trip from a terrorist government.
He slipped the tax provision into a broad tax relief bill in order to halt current audits of Americans who get breaks for operating businesses in the Virgin Islands.
In 2006 he was caught lying about a 2002 family trip financed by a government that for years has appeared on the U.S. State Department’s list of terrorist-sponsoring nations, a violation of House ethics rules.
Rangel actually lied on his congressional travel disclosure forms to conceal that the Cuban government had paid for him and his family to visit the island to meet with Dictator Fidel Castro to discuss lifting U.S. trade restrictions on Havana.

I hope there is a full investigation and if found guilty then the book is thrown at him. Maximum sentence allowed, no less. America deserves no less.
Was that a racist statement?

Investigations, etc.
It is unfortunate that under current Congressional management, the likelihood any will be throughly investigated &/or prosecuted for their dirty deeds, is seriously doubtful.
The very fact that the same people committing what many feel are crimes, are also the very people who investigate themselves. Its better then having the Fox guard the hen-house, if that's possible.
One thing is certain.... during the entire 2006 and 2008 political campaigns, we were told the Republicans represented a "culture of corruption."
The truth is, there were Republicans who were part of a culture of corruption. However, the whole truth is, so too are the Democrats.
They got away w/ declaring Republicans the bad guys because a sycophantic media enabled that deception. A media that always advises their viewers of the political party association of a Republican, but rarely tells of a Democrat's political party association, or they so downplay that point that few realize the person they are describing is a Democrat.
The Media Research Center has done serious & professional analysis of this disparity. It becomes patently obvious that many mainstream media types are providing all sorts of cover for Democrats or liberals, while excoriating any & all Republicans & especially any of a conservative bent.
So, I hope the man is investigated & has to pay for his dealings, but based on who controls the Congress, I also repeat that I seriously doubt we will see anything done about such dealings.<a href>http://www.alipac.us/</a>

This is such crap.
Anyone else under investigation for any type of misconduct or crime is placed under administrative leave.
Police officers, doctors, lawyers, firefighters, school teachers, nurses.......anyone.
But, when it comes to these damned politicians they're just allowed to continue on like nothing is happening.
Under investigation? Don't worry about it.
On trial? Well that's okay......show up when your presence isn't required and when it is, take all the time you need.
Go to jail? Oh sure But, should it happen not a problem....get out and you can always run again but if you don't want to or don't get reelected that's okay too....we'll find an appointment for ya somewhere.
Why? WHY in the hell do we ALLOW this go on?
The minute these bastards are suspected of anything, they need to be put on leave.....without pay. If they are indicted, that's it. They are done. And they should NEVER be permitted to function within government, in any capacity, at any level, again. And that includes within the private sector as well.
After a major housecleaning....at all levels of government.....there has GOT to be an all out effort to change the way things work now because it's one reason why it isn't working.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
