Obama begs for donations as he expresses disgust over beheading

On the same day Americans were trying to digest the awful news that their countryman and journalist James Foley was apparently beheaded by a terrorist from the Islamic extremist group, ISIS, President Barack Obama was appealing to donors in a mass email campaign.
“The upcoming elections could determine whether or not we have a Congress who will work with me to help you,” Obama said in the campaign fundraising appeal, not long before he somberly addressed the nation on Foley’s brutal death.
“All of us feel the ache of his absence, all of us mourn his loss,” the president said in a statement Wednesday morning. “We will do everything we can to protect our people and the timeless values they stand for.”
“That’s why it’s so important I spend some time helping Democrats campaign and win,” Obama stated in the fundraiser email sent out not long before his brief address. “I can only tackle the issues that matter to you with some help.”
“The United States of America will continue to do what we must do to protect our people,” Obama said during his news conference from Martha’s Vineyard, where he continued his vacation Wednesday. “We will be vigilant and we will be relentless.”
It sounds as if the Democratic Party, with the assistance of its commander-in-chief, will continue to be relentless in its plea for campaign contributions, too.
Republican campaigns across the country also held their hands out Wednesday.
To many Americans, campaign begging always seems unseemly.
But when campaigning comes from the president on a day when America stands united in the grips of a gruesome terrorist attack on a fellow citizen, the bad taste seems that much more bitter.
“We’ve got fewer than 80 days left until the election, and I know I can count on you to vote for our guys — but I need you to take the next step and make an investment that will help us win in November,” Obama states in his pitch.
“The bottom line is this: We can make so much progress if we work together as a team — you, me, and Congress. Chip in $3 or whatever you can to help make that a reality.”
