NEW YORK (WABC) -- The USS New York is setting sail Tuesday on its first mission.

The new Navy warship is being deployed from Norfolk, Virginia, as part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group.

The bow of the billion-dollar ship was crafted with 7.5 tons of steel salvaged from the ruins of the World Trade Center.

It will be heading for the Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation, carrying a crew of about 360 sailors and captained by Commander William Herrmann.
