    The Paleocon Dilemma…

    The Paleocon Dilemma…

The Ron Paul campaign illustrates the choices facing the antiwar Right.

    by W. James Antle III

Ron Paul isn’t just running for president. The antiwar 10-term congressman from Texas hopes that as titular head of the Republican Party, he can nudge the Right in a less interventionist direction, both at home and abroad. In fact, reviving an older, less reflexively hawkish conservatism may even be a more important motivation for Paul’s long-shot campaign than actually capturing the GOP nomination.

There’s just one problem: the movement Paul is trying to lead, or at least influence, is filled with people who think he is some kind of crazed left-wing radical. The popular conservative website RedState.com has effectively banned Paul supporters from signing up as commenters and promoting their candidate, partly on the grounds that such people are liberal Democrats merely pretending to be Republicans. FreeRepublic.com founder Jim Robinson, whose website was once more open to constitutionalists than Republican boosters, asserted that “Paul equals Hillary on the War.â€

Ron Paul is handing the primaries to McCain and Huckabee
The people who vote for Paul are splitting the vote
When McChuck wins...it is Paul's syphon that is draining the anti-illegal vote

Ron Paul's message is scaring someone, isn't it.

No, he isn't giving the election or nomination to anyone - people are free to vote for whatever person they choose.

It is scaring the media and those in power that people from every age group, political leanings, financial status, etc., are listening to the message and it makes sense.

They can't really label him right wing - left wing - so what do they do - they call him a kook. They trot out people who support him that are a little flaky. I wonder how many other candidates have a few flakes in their supporters roster. Actually, I wonder how we would feel if we really knew who was supporting the others.

These hit pieces that can't really find a target are kinda odd.

Did anyone see the altercation last night between
Paul supporters and Sean Hannity ?

And then you wonder why some people think what they do

People can vote for whoever they want..
but right now it looks like it is McCain/Obama
If the Paul supporters can accept that..
Then the Republican party will lose in 08 because most of the Republican who vote for Tancredo/Hunter/Thompson/Romney will not vote
I will stay home because I dont' see any difference between McCain who will wreck the entire world and Obama who will wreck the United States
Most Independents will not vote for a WarHawk like McCain

OK, people can vote for whom they want - or choose to not vote - that is their choice.

The fact that Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, or any of them are running doesn't mean it will be their fault who wins.

As for the altercation between Hannity and the Paul supporters, I don't like those kinds of things - but then I'm not a protest person and I'm not a very demonstrative supporter. But why is their behavior any worse than that of the media that has used its power to attempt to sway this election or exclude candidates before there is the first primary, or brand someone a kook, or unwinnable - or any other thing. There is no difference.

I guess the media is so calm, so rational sounding, with good looking men/women in nice clothing - but they are doing the same thing the Paul supporters are - pushing an agenda.

"But my goodness, Honey, we can't vote for Ron Paul - I mean Hannity thinks he's a kook, and some of his supporters are pretty boisterious - and what WILL the neighbors think!"

Don't count on Obama not getting elected -

We may not get another chance
No One is more disappointed, angry, disillusioned by the Media electing Presidents than I am...
NO ONE has more CONTEMPT for the entire media and American Political process than I do..after seeing what the media is doing to every decent Republican candidate..Thompson..Paul ...Hunter..Tancredo
    I supported Tancredo..
Yes I know about the Media..the distortions..the lies ...outright electioneering and fraud perpetrated on the American public..
But the choice is going to be..Obama McCain if we don't make some hard decisions here..
There are many democrats who are voting for McCain in the primaries because they know he will lose..
This is dirty politics...and being "idealistic" about Paul is fine and noble
Vote for whomever you want ..just know the score..

I think Obama is the very worst of the entire field.

I also think if we don't elect someone who has different ideas - and for me tha'ts Paul - or who is serious on immigation - that's Paul or Hunter - it won't matter who is elected.

With the others, we will have the same old thing - with Obama, it might be escalated - but all the rest are the same flavor - The Agenda wins no matter.
