Brindisi: Medical marijuana has good chance of becoming law

(WKTV) - It's nearing the end of session in Albany, which is a frantically busy time of year for state lawmakers, as they rush to pass bills before summer break.

Among the major bills still up in the air: Legalization of medical marijuana, increasing the minimum wage and the Dream Act, which gives undocumented youth access to financial aid.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi said the medical marijuana bill has a good chance of becoming law by the end of the week.

"Well, it's passed through the Assembly," said Brindisi. "The Senate has a companion bill, and they've hinted the sponsors feel confident they can get it through the Senate. The governor has indicated his support, as long as the bill makes sense. So we'll see.

"I think of any of the things that have a chance of passing before the end of session, this is certainly one of those things that has the best chance."

Brindisi says the 2014 legislative session ends Thursday, but he wouldn't be surprised if it went late into Thursday night, or even early into Friday.
