McKinney Loses Runoff for Georgia Seat

Cynthia McKinney, the fiery Georgia congresswoman known for her conspiracy theories about the Sept. 11 attacks and the scuffle she had earlier this year with a U.S. Capitol police officer, lost a runoff election Tuesday for her district's Democratic nomination.

Attorney Hank Johnson, a former county commissioner, won the nomination with 59 percent of the vote, surpassing McKinney by more than 11,000 votes.

McKinney, her state's first black congresswoman, has long been controversial. Her suggestion that the Bush administration had advance knowledge of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks helped galvanize opposition and she lost her seat in 2002, but won it again two years ago.

In her latest brouhaha in March, she struck a Capitol police officer who did not recognize her and tried to stop her from entering a House office building.

A grand jury in Washington declined to indict her, but she was forced to apologize before the House. She drew less than 50 percent of the vote in last month's primary.

Hmmm, I guess Johnson is a little better than McKinney, but not much. It looks like, in the end, he will vote with the amnesty crowd.

    Hank's position on illegal immigration:

Without question, insecure borders threaten both economic and national security, and no one is above the law. Illegal immigration and the employment of illegal immigrants should be discouraged and reprimanded.

That said, most illegal immigrants are honest, hard-working individuals. Many have risked life and limb and worked essential and frequently undesirable jobs for years in order to make better lives for their families. To unduly punish these people by imprisonment or deportation would not be an act of prudence but an act of cruelty – and harmful to the country's economy. Those who work hard, abide by the law, and make an effort to become a part of the American community deserve a second chance at legal citizenship. A second chance; not an amnesty.

You can't expect much from a district that would repeatedly re-elect a certified loon like McKinney to office.
It's like hell vomited and the Bush administration appeared.

It's my understanding the district is mostly Democrat.

Yep, and the chances of a Republican getting elected there are slim and none. You can bet Mr. Hank will be getting some e-mails, though. Got to see if we can educate the new guy, right?
