Thread: Please no EWOK Mentality

At the end of the movie Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker and the Ewoks throw a party.

They set off fire-works (why didn't they use those vs. the stormtroopers??) and dance for joy. Yippee!!

Return of the Jedi is only episode 6 out of 9.


There's still three more episodes, probably 7-8 hours at least, of hard-core warfighting vs. the evil empire...

There's 7-8 more hours of light-saber duels, lopped off limbs, blown up starships, exploding tie-fighters, and burned out enemy bases between the good guys and ultimate victory...

And you throw a party?? You start dancing for joy?? Yippee??!?

What the ----- do you mean "yippee"??!?




It's like Lord of the Rings, too. The good guys mustered up 3,000 years ago, they drove that ridiculous punk Sauron of Mordor to heel...

and then they just stopped, threw an even more ridiculous party, and let Sauron off the hook.

They knew Sauron was a no-good, good-for-nothing trouble-maker...

And they just let him off the hook. Did they chase him down? Did they follow through? NO! They let him crawl away...

and lo, and behold, he comes back a while later and causes more trouble, just like they ought to have known before hand he would.



POINT:

You've put down Amnesty 1.

You've put down Amnesty 2 (=Dream).

I still don't wanna see no ----- parties.

You take Sauron's head...

and mount in on your saddle...

then you party.

With respect, this "Ewok mentality" haunts the best of us. Take even Israel, fresh young and vigorous in the days of Joshua and the judges (1250 - 1000 BC). We read:

Judges 2:16-19
Then YHWH raised up judges who delivered them from the hands of those who plundered them. Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed themselves down to them. They turned aside quickly from the way in which their fathers had walked in obeying the commandments of YHWH; they did not do as their fathers. When YHWH raised up judges for them, YHWH was with the judge and delivered them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for YHWH was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed and afflicted them. But it came about when the judge died, that they would turn back and act more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and bow down to them; they did not abandon their practices or their stubborn ways.

Capiche? The Israelites would get into a jam... YHWH-God would send them a mighty war leader ("judge") who lead them through battle to victory...

and then the Israelites went straight back into the ridiculous bollux that got them in the jam in the first place!

That's "Ewok mentality" in the Bible. That's "hey, let's let Sauron go" in Old Testament history.


And where did that lead??

Judges 2:23
So YHWH allowed those nations to remain, not driving them out quickly; and He did not give them into the hand of Joshua.


And what happened then? What was the "fruit" of leaving those Ba'al worshipping, child sacrificing Canaanites, Perizzites, and Jebusites around??

Well, Napoleon Bonaparte once said, "the only logical outcome of defense is defeat". That is, keeping the ball constantly in your court is effeminate and weak. Eventually you'll get tired, and when you do, the ball drops in your court and you lose.

So, the "party hard" (=fight soft) Israelites leave the Ba'al worshippers around...

And eventually, Sargon II obliterates the North (722 BC)...

and Nebuchadrezzar carries off the South (586 BC)...

and it takes a Miracle of YHWH-God to save a remnant of them at that point.


CONCLUSION:

If you don't want to die, or best case, have to beg and plead (from captivity) YHWH-God to work a Miracle, like sending a planet killing asteroid to re-start the game...

then (please) don't throw no ridiculous parties...

until a-f-t-e-r the last Ba'alist temple is raized to the ground and sown over with salt as a p-e-r-m-a-n-e-n-t witness to the Wrath called down by sin.

NO PARTIES.

You don't party between quarters.

You don't party at half time.

You wanna party so bad?? Do you??

Then show it on the field.
