(STMW) — Three men were killed and at least 37 other people — including two young children — were injured in shootings across Chicago since Friday night.

The most recent fatal attack happened early Sunday in a West Pullman alley on the Far South Side.

A 20-year-old man was discovered unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds at 5 a.m. in the 11700 block of South LaSalle, according to Chicago Police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but could not release his name Sunday morning because family had not yet been notified.

Less than two hours earlier, a man died and another was critically wounded in a lakefront shooting in the Oakland neighborhood on the South Side.

The men, ages 21 and 31, were sitting on the lakefront near 43rd Street about 3:15 a.m. when two gunmen walked up and started shooting, police said.

The 21-year-old was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 9:55 a.m., authorities said. His name was withheld Sunday night.

The older man was shot four times in the abdomen and once in the arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was still listed in critical condition late Sunday.

The weekend’s third homicide victim was one of five people shot at a house party early Sunday in the West Side Austin neighborhood, police said.

Two gunmen walked up to a house party in the 4800 block of West Kamerling about 1 a.m. and fired shots into the crowd outside, police said.
A 22-year-old man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not confirm the fatality Sunday morning.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the back and chest and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. A 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and was also taken to Sinai, where his condition was stabilized.
Another man, 19, was shot in the thigh, but hospital information was not available, police said. Also, a 24-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the arm and was treated and released at the scene.
Two young children were wounded in shootings within minutes of each other Sunday evening.
At 8:40 p.m., a 6-year-old girl was shot in West Englewood. She was outside about 8:40 p.m. while two people were fighting in the 5600 block of South Bishop when one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said.
A bullet struck her leg and she was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in serious condition. She wasn’t the intended target, police said.
The shooter took off in a white SUV, police said.
At 8:47 p.m., a 7-year-old boy was wounded in a gang-related Northwest Side shooting along with a 19-year-old man in Belmont Cragin.
They were in a car in the 2500 block of North Parkside when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said.
The boy was shot in the shoulder and the man was grazed in the head. The man drove them to Community First Medical Center, where their conditions stabilized, police said.
The most recent non-fatal attack happened early Monday in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A 17-year-old boy was walking down the street in the 6300 block of South Bell at 1:40 a.m. when someone walked up and fired shots, police said.
He was shot in the leg and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
Police said the teen is a documented gang member.
At least 28 other people have been shot across the city since since 11 p.m. Friday.

Baltimore sees 11 shootings, 2 of them fatal, in the first days of August

Published August 02, 2015 Associated Press

BALTIMORE – On the heels of the most deadly month in 43 years, Baltimore saw 11 shootings, two of them fatal, in the first two days of August, including an incident in which seven people were shot.

That incident occurred Sunday in northwest Baltimore.

Acting Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said Sunday at a news conference that he believes the multiple-victim shooting was "a retaliatory act of violence." Davis said one of the victims is a documented member of the Black Guerilla Family gang, and that two others had been victims of gang-related shootings in previous years.

The weekend's violence follows a disturbing uptick in homicides in Baltimore over the past three months, reaching a high in July with 45 killings_the most the city has seen in a single month since 1972.

NYC Activists Demand Action After 10 Shootings Leave 3 Dead, 22 Wounded Over Weekend

De Blasio Spokesman: Over First 7 Months Of 2015, Shootings Up Just 1% Over 2014August 3, 2015 8:56 PM

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) —Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams was among those speaking out Monday against the rash of shootings that took place over the weekend.

“Our children deserve to live; our adults deserve to live. All lives matter,” Adams said during a news conference.

Adams called on the city to provide more money and resources to curb violence, demanding $10 million in emergency funding, CBS2’s Ilana Gold reported.

Adams placed a casket outside Brooklyn Borough Hall to emphasize the devastating impact of gun violence. One look inside the symbolic gold coffin, reveals a familiar face: there’s a mirror inside surrounded by pictures of shooting victims, 1010 WINS’ Sonia Rincon reported.

Adams said he hopes the shocking image has an impact on the public, Gold reported.

“The good people of this city do not have to argue, yell, and scream at each other,” Adams said. “We are on the same side.”

There were 10 shooting incidents across New York City this weekend that left 22 injured. Overall, there were 18 shooting incidents for the week of July 27-Aug. 2, with 33 victims.

Two people were killed and 11 others wounded in three overnight shootings on Sunday, including nine people who were hurt when gunfire broke out at a backyard party in Brooklyn.

That incident happened at around 2:15 a.m. in East New York after a dispute, police said. Six women and three men were shot, most with wounds to their legs. Police said the injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Four other people sustained cuts and bruises during the disturbance.

The incident was caught on surveillance video and police are now looking for multiple gunmen.

Another shooting happened at a playground in the Bronx around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers responding to a 911 call found three people with gunshot wounds. A 20-year-old man had been shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Christian Garcia, of the Bronx.

A 25-year-old man was shot in the leg, and a 17-year-old girl was shot in the buttocks. They were both hospitalized in stable condition.

Authorities said a man was also killed in another Brooklyn shooting that happened about the same time opposite the Whitman Houses in the Fort Greene section. The 46-year-old man was shot multiple times. No identification was immediately released.

Saturday morning, police said 25-year-old Donnell Smith was shot and killed inside a hallway at the Glenwood Houses in East Flatbush.

His mother, Rosalyn Jackson, spoke out at a stop the violence rally and pleaded for justice.

“Enough is enough,” she said. “I’m tired, but I’m not going to let my son’s death be in vain because they shot him down like he was a dog in the street and that I’m not standing for.”

Community leaders say they’re experiencing more gun violence in the neighborhood and claim the mayor has ignored their concerns.

“Where’s our mayor? Why are you not here denouncing what’s going on in our community?” said community activist Tony Herbert.

At Sunday’s Ecuadorian Parade, CBS2 asked Mayor Bill de Blasio twice for a comment, but his aide pushed CBS2 away.

De Blasio’s press secretary Karen Hinton issued a statement Monday saying, “Mayor de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bratton have added officers to high crime areas in the Summer All Out effort. The Mayor takes very seriously each incident and has directed NYPD to beef up its presence in these areas.

Overall crime is going down, but Mayor de Blasio will continue to be diligent about preventing crime and locking up criminals.”

Hinton said that despite the violent weekend, the number of people shot during the first seven months of 2015 compared to 2014 is up by less than 1 percent. There have been 669 shooting incidents with 794 victims so far this year, according to Hinton. That’s compared to 674 shooting incidents and 787 victims last year.

“There’s no question that every crime, every victim of a crime, is a tragedy,” Phil Walzak, the mayor’s senior adviser for strategic planning, told CBS2’s Marcia Kramer. “It’s an issue that is taken very seriously here.”

Separately, on Monday Sen. Charles Schumer and his cousin, comedian Amy Schumer, held a news conference calling for new gun control legislation following the Louisiana theater shooting.
