Police: Man targeted homeless for identity theft
The Associated Press LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a Florida man they say was targeting homeless people for identity theft.
Police arrested 30-year-old Antonio Philips on Monday. They believe he was paying homeless people $5 to tell him their names, dates of birth and social security numbers.
Glynn Sewell told WAVE-TV that he was one of the victims. Sewell said he was walking to a homeless shelter when he saw 15 or 20 people around a car. He said Philips persuaded him to give over his personal information because he was nice and clean cut.
Police believe Philips also promised victims they would receive a $50 stimulus check from the federal government.
Police say they found more than $500 in $5 bills, weapons, and a list of homeless shelters and mealtimes in Philips' car. He is charged with trafficking in stolen identities and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
