    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Porterville police reportedly shot and killed a knife-wielding intruder at the city's Foster Farms food processing plant today after the man tried to break into an employee break room at the plant.

In a statement released this afternoon, Foster Farms president Don Jackson said the incident happened about 11:30 a.m. Jackson said the man was fleeing from police and trespassed onto the plant property.

"After providing verbal warnings to the perpetrator, law enforcement officers fatally shot the man to prevent him from reaching the break room," Jackson said.

No Foster Farms employees were hurt in the incident, Jackson added.

Neither Porterville police nor Tulare County sheriff's officials have issued any information about the case yet.

A tragic incident occurred at the Foster Farms plant in Porterville on Thursday.

Police say that just after 11:30 a.m. a knife-wielding man fleeing from police trespassed onto the Foster Farms property, via Plano Street, and attempted to enter a nearby employee break room.

Police attempted to talk to the man, but were unable to calm him down and say they were forced to fatally shot him in order to stop him from reaching the break room.

No Foster Farms employees were injured in the incident. The name of the man has not yet been released, and police say the shooting is still under investigation.

The incident is under investigation by the Tulare County District Attorney's office. The police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
