Galveston police believe a Honduran national suspected of killing his wife by slashing her face with a machete drove her car to Houston.

"We don't know if he's still in the area," Galveston police spokesman Jorge Trevino said Wednesday.

Eldin Rolando Gomez, 25, told a relative by telephone that he was heading for the Mexican border, Trevino said.

That call led police to find the body of Norma Quijada, 33, in the kitchen of her home in the 5400 block of Avenue K Sunday night.

She died that morning during a domestic fight, police believe.

Her Jeep Liberty was found near the Southwest Freeway Wednesday morning, Trevino said. Police don't know how long it had been there, he said.

Gomez had been the victim of a machete attack during an unrelated incident several months ago, Trevino said. He has a scar from that incident on his head.

He is described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with black hair and a small goatee and brown eyes.

Galveston police are looking for the husband of a woman found slashed to death Sunday.

Police found the body of Norma Quijada, 33, in the kitchen of her home in the 5400 block of Avenue K on Sunday night.

Investigators believe she was killed between 2:30 and 4 a.m. that day, said Galveston police Detective Jason Chide.

Police are looking for Eledin Rolando Gomez, a 25-year-old Honduran national, Chide said. Gomez has an arrest record of family violence, Chide said.

He is described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, or perhaps shorter, weighing 140 pounds, with black hair and a small goatee and brown eyes. He may be driving the woman's Jeep Liberty, Chide said.
