US to Focus Exclusively on Arming Al Qaeda in Syria

The Washington Post in its recent article, “U.S. looks to build alternative Syrian opposition leadership,” claims:

The Obama administration has spent the past several months in secret diplomatic negotiations aimed at building a new Syrian opposition leadership structure that it hopes can win the support of minority groups still backing President Bashar al-Assad.

The strategy, to be unveiled at a Syrian opposition meeting next week in Qatar, amounts to a last-ditch effort to prevent extremists from gaining the upper hand within the opposition and to stop the Syrian crisis from boiling over into the greater Middle East.

The Post also indicates that de facto “administrative zones” are being set up along the Turkish-Syrian border with “nonlethal” assistance provided by the United States, France and “other like-minded governments.”

The so-called “Syrian National Council” is being discarded, as it is wholly seen as illegitimate by both Syrians and the world at large.

Image: Will the West’s new “resistance front” in Syria officially include Libyan Mahdi al-Harati of the US State Department, United Nations, and the UK Home Office (page 5, .pdf)-listed terrorist organization, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG)?

Here he is addressing fellow terrorists in Syria. Harati is now commanding a Libyan brigade operating inside of Syria attempting to destroy the Syrian government and subjugate the Syrian population.

Traditionally, this is known as “foreign invasion,” not rebellion. The Washington Post would also quote Secretary Clinton:

The SNC, Clinton said, should no longer be considered the ‘visible leader’ of the opposition.

‘There has to be a representation of those who are on the front lines, fighting and dying today to obtain their freedom,’ she said during an unrelated visit to the Balkan states. ‘. . . And we also need an opposition that will be on record strongly resisting the efforts by extremists to hijack the Syrian revolution.’

It is clear that both the West’s political proxies, and its armed militant proxies have been compromised and the narrative that tentatively worked against Libya, is now unraveling and failing against Syria.

While the US attempts to portray this latest move as an attempt to “prevent extremist elements from gaining the upper hand within the opposition,” it must be remembered that as early as 2007, US officials had admitted that efforts to overthrow the governments of Syria and Iran would include primarily US, Israeli, and Saudi armed extremists drawn from across the Arab World, and sent into Syria to create the very sectarian bloodbath now unfolding. Rhetoric of “freedom” and “democracy” serve merely as cover within which foreign military aggression is couched.

This was first exposed by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh in his 2007 New Yorkerreport titled, “”The Redirection: Is the Administration’s new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism?

In the report it specifically stated:

To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East.

In Lebanon, the Administration has cooperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran.

The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria.

A byproduct of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda. -The Redirection, Seymour Hersh (2007)

Hersh’s report would continue by stating:

the Saudi government, with Washington’s approval, would provide funds and logistical aid to weaken the government of President Bashir Assad, of Syria.
The Israelis believe that putting such pressure on the Assad government will make it more conciliatory and open to negotiations. -The Redirection, Seymour Hersh (2007)

The link between extremist groups and Saudi funding was also mentioned in the report, and reflects evidence regarding the origin and backers of similar extremists who flooded Iraq during the US occupation, sowing sectarian strife and killing Western troops alike:
…[Saudi Arabia's] Bandar and other Saudis have assured the White House that they will keep a very close eye on the religious fundamentalists.Their message to us was ‘We’ve created this movement, and we can control it.’ It’s not that we don’t want the Salafis to throw bombs; it’s who they throw them at—Hezbollah, Moqtada al-Sadr, Iran, and at the Syrians, if they continue to work with Hezbollah and Iran.-

West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center’s 2007 report, Al-Qa’ida’s Foreign Fighters in Iraq” indicated which areas in Syria Al Qaeda fighters filtering into Iraq came from.

The overwhelming majority of them came from Dayr Al-Zawr in Syria’s southeast, Idlib in the north near the Turkish-Syrian border, and Dar’a in the south near the Jordanian-Syrian border. (Right)

A map indicating the epicenters of violence in Syria indicate that the exact same hotbeds for Al Qaeda in 2007, now serve as the epicenters of so-called “pro-democracy fighters.”

It was exposed in “NATO Using Al Qaeda Rat Lines to Flood Syria With Foreign Terrorists,” that indeed, the very networks used by Al Qaeda to flood Iraq with foreign fighters is now being used by the United States, NATO and the Persian Gulf States of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to violently overthrow Syria.

The narrative that recent US efforts aim at heading off “extremists” from “hijacking” the armed violence in Syria, is exposed as a blatant lie.

Extremists have constituted the so-called “opposition” from the very beginning, by design, with explicit US, NATO, Saudi and Qatari funding, weapons, and support.

These same networks are now being used, with the addition of a more prominent role for Turkey, to target Syria directly. (Click to enlarge)

Breaking NEWS: Syria CIVIL WAR Obama supports REBELS, Al-Qaeda take down Assad REGIME (CIA funding)

Breaking NEWS: Syria CIVIL WAR Obama supports REBELS, Al-Qaeda take down Assad REGIME (CIA funding)

US President Barack Obama has signed a secret order allowing the CIA and other American agencies to support rebels seeking to overthrow the Assad regime, a US government source told Reuters.

Obama reportedly gave the order, known as an intelligence "finding", earlier this year. The presidential finding also provides for US collaboration with a secret command center operated by Turkey and its allies.

The full extent of the assistance the "finding" allows the CIA to give the Syrian rebels is unclear. It is also unknown precisely when Obama signed the order.

The Obama administration has been open about providing non-military support to the Syrian opposition. On Wednesday, the State Department said it had allotted a total of $25 million for "non-lethal" assistance to the Free Syrian Army. Some of that money may be used to buy communications devices such as encrypted radios, a US official said. The State Department also said the United States has set aside $64 million in humanitarian aid for the Syrian people.

Last year, Obama also signed an initial "finding" authorizing US support for Libyan rebels seeking to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi.

Also on Wednesday, the US Treasury confirmed it had granted authorization for Washington's representative of the Free Syrian Army to conduct financial transactions on behalf of the rebel group. Reports that the Syrian Support Group had been allowed to do so first appeared last week.

The report of Obama's authorization for covert rebel support comes amidst continued fighting between Syrian government troops and rebels over control of Aleppo, the country's economic capital. Thousands of people have fled the city, while the government and rebels continue to release conflicting reports on the extent of their control over the city.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that the Free Syrian Army managed to obtain nearly two dozen surface-to-air missiles. While a Free Syrian Army representative denied those reports, he also said the rebels were preparing another surprise for Assad's forces.

Senior US officials have also been ratcheting up their rhetoric against Assad. On Monday, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta suggested that Assad "get the hell out" if he wants to protect himself and his family. A draft UN resolution calling for Assad to relinquish power in favor of a transitional government is also set to be voted on by the General Assembly on Friday. The document would deplore the Security Council for failing to act; a not-so-covert swipe at Russia's and China's continued panning of Security Council resolutions deemed to be one-sided.

Brian Becker, director of the ANSWER anti-war coalition, believes the revelation of Obama's order doesn't represent any shift in terms of US strategy towards Syria.

"All that does is reveal that the so-called diplomacy, the so-called looking for a negotiated settlement is a fraud -- that the diplomacy is, in fact, a form of perjury," he told RT. "The reality is that the US government -- the Obama administration with the Pentagon and the CIA -- has been neck-deep coordinating military operations to overthrow a sovereign government in Syria."

He noted that there would have been no civil war going on in Syria if not for foreign intervention.

"The decisive factor in the equation for civil war is US intervention," he said. "And would say, frankly, the Obama administration is guilty of war crimes against the Syrian people having cynically manipulated the situation. They have the blood of the Syrian people on their hands."

FREE SYRIAN ARMS: US FUNDS TERRORISM! giving guns to AL-QAEDA

Published on Aug 9, 2012 by WYNKnews

The conflict in Syria is intensifying and the UN is unable to agree on a solution to end the bloodshed. Meanwhile, US politicians are calling to arm opposition forces, amid suspicions the US may already be supplying weapons through its Arab allies.

In spite of the fears that providing anti-governmental rebels in Syria could lead to an irreversible escalation of the conflict and descent into civil war, US politicians are starting to put pressure on Washington.

Republican Senator John McCain is at the forefront of the debate to supply Syrian insurgents with arms, urging the White House to take action.

"We should start considering all options, including arming the opposition. The blood-letting has got to stop," he said to reporters following Syria's withdrawal of its diplomatic mission from Washington.

Council on Foreign Relations senior fellow Elliot Adams echoed McCain when he appeared on a CNN talk show to debate the Syria conflict. He said that the opposition would need more "tangible" support to bring the conflict to an end, "I would give them money and I would give them arms."

The Free Syrian Army is also putting pressure on the US for weapons supplies. Freelance Journalist Diana Nemeh told RT that the rebels use the escalating conflict to appeal for support.

"The Free Syrian Army is trying to take this chance to push external forces such as the United States to provide them with more arms," she said to RT.

The Obama administration has repeatedly ruled out the supply of arms to Syrian insurgents and has said it will continue to look for a solution through diplomatic means. However, this policy is skin deep as it is very probable that the US is providing Syrian rebels with arms indirectly through its Arab allies.

The US has been the number one arms trader to the Middle East in the last couple of decades with nearly 50% of its weapons exports going to the region. Since 2006 the US provided more than $720 million dollars of support to Syria's neighbor Lebanon in the form of arms and military training according to the Washington Times.

In October of last year the Syrian government reportedly mined the border crossing with Lebanon to curb to the flow of weapons being smuggled into the country.

Furthermore, a former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds told Turkey's Daily Milliyet newspaper that Syrian rebels had been trained by US and NATO forces in the South of Turkey. She said the US had been involved in smuggling weapons across the Turkish border from the Incirlik military base.

Qatar and Saudi Arabia have also reportedly offered financial support to the Syrian opposition with a view to helping them replenish their dwindling weapons supply.

If the US is able to supply the Syrian opposition with arms through it Arab allies, it hardly seems necessary for the US to pressure for any official military support, much less a peaceful resolution to the conflict if their ultimate aim is to oust Assad.

Middle East expert Randa Slim from the New America Foundation think-tank says that of the many groups in Syria, Western powers mainly support Syrian National Council despite the organization's general lack of control over events in the country.

"There has been an attempt by the Syrian National Council to establish coordination mechanisms with the Free Syrian Army, and so far these mechanisms have remained on paper."
