Enterovirus Linked to Girls Death

Health news takes center stage. Concerns over Ebola are on the rise, but here in Massachusetts, it’s another sickness causing parents to worry. Doctors in Rhode Island say a rare combination of enterovirus and staph infection are what led to the death of a ten year old girl. The family is mourning the loss of young Emily Ortrando after she died in a Providence Hospital. Doctors believe it was the addition of the staph infection that led to Emily’s death. The CDC says nearly 500 people in 41 different states have come down with Enterovirus. But out of 4 deaths, the CDC says all of those were exacerbated by additional complications. If the virus isn’t treated quickly, doctors say it can even lead to paralysis.
