L.A./Long Beach CBP Seizes Counterfeit Computer Equipment
(Tuesday, August 25, 2009)
Los Angeles — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport seized a shipment of wireless routers and Ethernet switches for trademark infringement. The shipment has a domestic value of $659,500 and a manufacture’s suggested retail price of $857,340.
The items had logos similar to Apple, Microsoft, and Windows Vista. CBP import specialist determined that the logos were substantially indistinguishable from trademarks recorded with CBP. The importer of this shipment tried to conceal the logos by placing a sticker on the product packaging. A total of 5,475 wireless routers and 7,472 Ethernet switches were seized.
CBP officers and import specialists are aggressively working together to intercept shipments which violate intellectual property rights laws protecting recorded trademarks. “CBP is charged with enforcing trade laws and we continue to devote substantial resources to target, intercept, detain, seize and forfeit shipments of goods that violate these laws,â€NO AMNESTY
