REAL ID GRUDGE DAY + MEDIA ALERT
Wednesday, April 12, 2006
The REAL ID Act imposes a national identification system on the American people for the first time. All state issued driver's licenses and ID cards will have to be REAL ID compliant. These REAL ID cards will come to include bio-identification information. REAL ID cards will be needed to get a job or board a plane.
The state of Montana has already come very close to refusing to comply with these federal mandates. The New Hampshire House has already voted not to comply and the question is now before that State's Senate. But the federal government is bribing/blackmailing states to submit by offering or denying federal funds.
The REAL ID Act is one more step toward a centralized leviathan state, where everyone and everything is numbered and tracked by the federal government. Rules are now being drafted to place radio tracking tags on nearly every animal in America, and tags are actually being placed on trees, even as you read these words.
I know, this sounds like a bad joke. A paranoid delusional fantasy. But the plans of politicians, bureaucrats, and social engineers are increasingly indistinguishable from paranoid delusional fantasies. All of this is all too real.
Police states are rarely erected in a day. They are built incrementally, one small piece at a time, until suddenly all of the pieces join, and even the builders are surprised by the outcome. Doubtless no one is actually planning to create a police state, but a police state will be the inevitable result of all the measures being planned or enacted today.
The time to stop this process is now. The REAL ID Act was passed into law last year, but laws passed can be un-passed. So we want to let Congress know we have not forgotten about the REAL ID Act, and that we will never shut-up about it until it is repealed. On the 10th of every month we ask you to ask Congress to repeal the REAL ID Act. You can do so here: http://action.downsizedc.org/wyc.php?cid=30
