Drug suspect knocks officer to ground with car

A man authorities pulled over on Interstate 40 concerning a drug investigation sped away, swerving at and then striking an officer Thursday, according to the Alamance County Sheriff's Office.

The impact knocked Vice Lieutenant David Crowder to the ground, although he didn't require medical treatment, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies pursued the car, which traveled north on I-40 to the Buckhorn Road exit.

The pursuit continued south in Orange County. Deputies lost contact with the vehicle at a crossroad location.

Investigators identified the driver as 31-year-old Hassan Raheem Olivo, of 7105 Whitney Road in Graham, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities executing a search warrant of his home found 619.6 grams of marijuana, 6 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, 579.5 grams of cocaine and $7,920 in cash, the sheriff's office said. Also seized was a shotgun and a Ford Mustang.

Charges including assault on a government official were filed against Olivo, who remained at-large as of Friday morning, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies with the Criminal Interdiction Team stopped a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta traveling east on I-40, near the 355 mile marker, for a motor vehicle violation. During the stop, probable cause was reportedly established to search the vehicle and, during the search, 260 grams (roughly 9 ounces) of cocaine was discovered.

Hassan Raheem Olivo, 43, of 316 Burnette Circle, Pittsboro, N.C., was charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession, trafficking in cocaine by transport and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bond was set at $250,000 secured.
