HIDALGO — Customs officers arrested a McAllen resident found with about 48 pounds of cocaine last week.

Domingo Alberto Bravo, 42, was headed north at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on Friday.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers sent Bravo and his 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck to secondary inspection, according to an agency statement.

There, "Robbie," a narcotic detection dog, smelled drugs emanating from beneath the pickup truck's dashboard.

Officers removed 19 cocaine packages that weighed about 48 pounds and arrested Bravo, a U.S. citizen, on federal drug charges.

Pending an appearance before a U.S. magistrate, Bravo remains in custody.
