White House senior communications official Josh Raffel, a reliable crisis manager who worked closely with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, is leaving his post in the next two months.
A White House official told Axios that Raffel, who formerly worked as a Hollywood PR executive, will be returning to New York. He will be close to his family and return to the private sector.

"Josh is honest, passionate and thoughtful. Whether it was offering strategic guidance on the communications for tax reform or a foreign trip, Josh's guidance was invaluable. The White House won't be the same without him," Ivanka Trump said in a statement.

Jared Kushner recruited Raffel into the White House in early 2017 to manage communications for the Office of American Innovation. Raffel quickly began running Kushner and Ivanka’s media relations.

"I probably talk to Josh 30 times a day," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said last August. "I certainly wouldn't say he's doing personal PR, but he handles a lot of things in [Kushner and Ivanka Trump's] portfolio."

Later that fall, he was promoted to deputy communications director, where he lead communications for the Israeli-Palestine negotiations and worked closely with Gary Cohn on tax reform.

Raffel previously represented Kushner and Ivanka when he worked at the New York crisis PR firm Hiltzik Strategies. There, he managed press for Kushner Companies and Ivanka’s personal brand. He then went onto Blumhouse Productions, the horror film production company, before he took up the White House role.

Despite being a Democrat and Hillary Clinton supporter, sources close to the White House revealed that staff immediately trusted and grew close to him.

Jason Greenblatt, the special representative for international negotiations, claimed that Raffel was an “integral part of our peace team and became a close friend,” while Gary Cohn, director of the National Economic Council, said: “He will be missed.”

Raffel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
