Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani on Sunday called the Black Lives Matter movement “racist” and “un-American” and said African-American parents should teach their children not to be fearful of police but of other blacks “who are going to kill them.”

Speaking on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” the Republican slammed Black Lives Matter activists and said focusing only on the deaths of black men at the hands of police is wrong.

“If you want to deal with this on the black side, you need to teach your children to be respectful of police, and you need to teach your children that the real danger to them is not the police. The real danger to them, 99 times out of 100, 999 times out of 1,000, are other black kids who are going to kill them. That’s the way they’re going to die,” Mr. Giuliani said.

His comments come after a tumultuous week in which black men died at the hands of police in Louisiana and Minnesota. And on Thursday night, five Dallas police officers were killed and others wounded at a Black Lives Matter demonstration by a shooter who explicitly said he wanted to kill white officers.

Mr. Giuliani
stated in no uncertain terms that he believes the Black Lives Matter movement is promoting racism and violence.

“When you say ‘black lives matter,’ that’s inherently racist,” he said. “Black lives matter. White lives matter. Asian lives matter. Hispanic lives matter. That’s anti-American and it’s racist.”
