(Natural News) In the aftermath of Hillary Clinton’s loss to Donald Trump in November 2016, Americans were treated to waves of stories making claims that Russia was responsible for the president’s victory and that Trump and Vladimir Putin had secretly worked together to undermine Clinton’s campaign to “steal” the election.

In particular, we were told, Russian troll farms deployed bots aimed at “meddling” in the election via a massive influence operation designed to push fake news and sway opinions on key candidate positions.
But it turns out that, while meddling certainly did occur, those behind the operation were not Russians. They had no ties whatsoever to the Kremlin, in fact.
They were Americans.
As reported by Mollie Hemingway at The Federalist nearly a year ago, a ‘tool’ ostensibly used to track Russian bots on Twitter and other social media called “Hamilton68” — after No. 68 of the Federalist Papers, which was written by Alexander Hamilton — was devised by The Alliance for Securing Democracy, a group whose advisory council that includes #NeverTrump stalwarts like “conservative” Bill Kristol and a gaggle of other neocons and veterans of the Obama administration such as John Podesta, who ran Hillary’s campaign.
Hemingway noted at the time that Hamilton68’s success in tracking bots is “impossible to assess,” but leading Democrats like the new chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, nevertheless used the project’s ‘findings’ to form the basis of their claims that Russian bots helped POTUS Trump defeat Clinton.
Democrats’ uncorroborated claims, likely fabricated by the Hamilton68 project, also formed the basis of numerous stories in the establishment media uncritically echoing claims by Schiff and others — and always without verifying the information that they were referencing.
Deep State establishmentarians are behind the Russian bot hoax

One journalist who was critical, however, and remains so, is Glenn Greenwald of Edward Snowden fame. Though a liberal, he has been a consistent critic of Democratic claims of Russian election interference because so few of them have ever been corroborated. The U.S. intelligence community’s assessment that the Kremlin tried to interfere in the 2016 election is essentially meaningless as well, given that Russia has been conducting influence operations in America for decades.

Just a week before Christmas, the Senate Intelligence Committee released a report that was highly critical of Russia, accusing Moscow of suppressing Democratic voter turnout by targeting blacks on social media. The report was written by members of a small technology firm, New Knowledge. As The New York Times reported Dec. 19, the firm’s CEO and co-founder, Jonathon Morgan, and his staff ran a ‘Russian bot’ operation of their own — in Alabama during a special election to replace then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions. That race pitted GOP candidate Roy Moore against Democrat Doug Jones; the latter won a narrow victory. So the same firm that wrote the Senate report critical of Russian bot interference in 2016 then ran a Russian bot interference campaign in the Alabama race, calling it an “experiment.”
The point is, the entire “Russian bot” narrative was created out of whole cloth by Deep State establishmentarians and then echoed dutifully by a compliant media. It was never a Moscow operation, as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has repeatedly said.

An online disinformation campaign conducted by a former Obama administration official leading up to the 2018 midterm elections was bankrolled by left-wing tech billionaire Reid Hoffman, according to the Daily Caller's Peter Hasson.
Hoffman, who co-founded LinkedIn, admitted in December to funding American Engagement Technologies (AET) - which is currently embroiled in a "false flag" scandal stemming from the 2017 Alabama special election.
Now, AET and its founder Mickey Dickerson have come under fire for meddling in the 2018 midterm elections.

American Engagement Technologies (AET), which was founded by former Obama administration official Mikey Dickerson, bought ads for two Facebook pages, “The Daily Real” and “Today’s Nation,” encouraging Republican voters to stay home in the midterm elections, Facebook’s ad archives show.
Both pages appear to be designed to give the impression that they were operated by frustrated conservatives rather than by Democratic operatives.
The American flag-adorned pages encouraged conservative voters to either stay home in November or vote for Democrats to punish Republicans for being insufficiently conservative. Other ads called polls predicting a “blue wave” in the 2018 elections “unreliable” and downplayed the election’s importance.

What the Caller discovered is that AET's 2018 meddling efforts went further than previously known "in attempting to mislead American voters for the purpose of swinging an election." In one ad campaign designed to convince GOP voters that the Democrats weren't a threat, AET suggested that the Democrat "blue wave" was nothing more than a myth, and that polls showing Democrats leading were "unreliable."

In another campaign aimed to frustrate Republican voters, AET pushed the narrative that congressional GOP were betraying "real conservatives," while in another campaign, the Democratic operatives wrote that: "Some Trump supporters see midterm losses for congressional republicans [sic] as a wake-up call to get serious on the wall," while another one suggested that "Trump is failing us."



In another ad targeting the midterm elections, AET told voters that "none of this even matters," slamming both sides for "shouting so much."

One series of ads told voters that there were “No good choices” in the midterm elections. Voting for Democrats to send a message “feels like the best option,” the Democratic operatives wrote.
Other ads linked to an article that urged “Semi-Trumpers” to either cross party lines, vote third-party or stay home in November, rather than vote Republican. “Even more true in light of the recent violence,” read the caption. “If you aren’t helping, don’t show up.”
A similar set of ads linked to an article that called for Republican voters to boycott the GOP. The post was captioned: “I hope folks go for this. Seems like the only thing that can save true conservatives.” -Daily Caller

During the 2017 Alabama special election, AET commissioned cybersecurity firm "New Knowledge" - founded by Jonathon Morgan, who created the technology running the infamous "Hamilton 68" propaganda website which purports to track Russian bot activity.
Morgan's firm created over 1,000 Russian language Twitter accounts which supported Republican candidate Roy Moore, then Morgan pointed to his own bots following Moore to imply that he was a Russian stooge.

When called out in December, Morgan suggested that his "false flag" operation was simply research.

(Natural News) It was one of the biggest upsets in the era of POTUS Donald Trump: The U.S. Senate seat vacated by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions in deep red Alabama was won by Democratic candidate Doug Jones during a special election in the fall of 2017.

While many argued at the time GOP candidate Roy Moore lost due to allegations that he may have had sexually inappropriate contact with a teenage girl when he was in his late 20s, the race was nonetheless close and some political analysts thought he should have pulled off a victory anyway (Moore emphatically denied the accusations).
Come to find out, however, thanks to a bombshell report by The New York Times ahead of the Christmas holidays, Jones got an assist from a Democrat-linked “experiment” that involved “Russian-like” social media manipulation and meddling.
One firm involved in the project, New Knowledge, is run by Jonathon Morgan; his company just happens to be the one which “wrote a scathing account of Russia’s social media operations in the 2016 election that was released [recently] by the Senate Intelligence Committee,” the Times noted.
The National Sentinel then reported that the project and it’s potential to have influenced the election outcome got the attention of GOP state Attorney General Steve Marshall, who called the information “concerning.” (Related: There WAS a “Russia collusion” conspiracy that altered the outcome of a U.S. election… and it caused the defeat of a conservative.)
As bad as this seems, these ops appear to have been more widespread than previously thought.
There is NO evidence Republicans are doing this

According to a new report from The New York Times, a second “false flag” operation aimed at derailing Moore’s campaign was launched as well, this one intended to make it seem like he was pushing to ban alcohol throughout Alabama:
The “Dry Alabama” Facebook page, illustrated with stark images of car wrecks and videos of families ruined by drink, had a blunt message: Alcohol is the devil’s work, and the state should ban it entirely.

Along with a companion Twitter feed, the Facebook page appeared to be the work of Baptist teetotalers who supported the Republican, Roy S. Moore, in the 2017 Alabama Senate race. “Pray for Roy Moore,” one tweet exhorted. In fact, the Dry Alabama campaign, not previously reported, was the stealth creation of progressive Democrats who were out to defeat Mr. Moore — the second such secret effort to be unmasked.
Mind you, these are the same kind of influence operations that Democrats have accused the Russians of engaging in on behalf of Trump’s 2016 campaign, which subsequently led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller and the unprecedented harassment and targeting of a duly elected president.
Matt Osborne, a long-time progressive activist who worked on the Dry Alabama project, actually told the Times that he hoped someday such deception tactics would be banned, but he added that he ‘believes’ Republicans are doing the same thing so Democrats should be doing it too.
Only, thus far we’ve not seen any evidence of GOP false flag operations aimed at disrupting or altering election outcomes against Democrats; we’ve only seen evidence of Democratic operations against Republican candidates.
That said, the Times claimed — erroneously — that “thousands” of fake Facebook and Twitter accounts were created by Russians to “help” POTUS Trump by ‘attacking’ Hillary Clinton. And Mueller claimed that Russian troll farms spent “millions” on fake ads and other influence operations in the run-up to the 2016 election.
In fact, Russian troll farms spent a tiny fraction of that amount. And what’s more, at least half of the ads they purchased were pro-Hillary.
Once again, we see evidence of Democrat-aligned operations using social media to subvert our electoral process in an attempt to ensure Left-wing candidates win political office, not Republican operations.
