Hyundai to build new Elantra in Alabama

Fountain Valley, CA. based Hyundai Motor America has announced that it will begin building its new Elantra at its Alabama factory beginning in late fall. The car will be the third Hyundai model built in the United States, following the Santa Fe crossover and the newly designed, 2011 Sonata sedan.

Hyundai said the change, along with a recent move to build the Santa Fe at a production facility in Georgia, will increase the automaker’s overall U.S; production capacity, which already accounted for half of its domestic sales volume.

“Hyundai’s philosophy is to build our vehicles where we sell them, and with the addition of the Elantra to our U.S. production mix we now manufacture our three most popular models right here in the U.S.,â€
