SoCal immigration lawyer facing bribery sentence

LOS ANGELES—Sentencing has been delayed in Los Angeles for a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement attorney convicted of taking bribes.

Constantine Kallas faces more than 29 years in federal prison on 36 counts ranging from conspiracy to obstruction of justice. His sentencing hearing on Monday was delayed until Nov. 8.

Prosecutors say the 40-year-old Alta Loma man and his wife took bribes from dozens of illegal immigrants and legal residents to file government petitions falsely stating they had been offered jobs.

Authorities say they banked at least $950,000 before their arrests in 2008.
Kallas's wife, Maria, pleaded guilty last year and will be sentenced next month.
