Son of Osama bin Laden deported

Son of Osama bin Laden deported

By Madrid Bureau Chief Al Goodman

MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- One of Osama bin Laden's sons has left Spain after he was denied asylum in the country, an Interior Ministry spokeswoman told CNN Saturday.

Omar bin Laden pictured earlier this year during a television interview in Rome, Italy.

Omar bin Laden left Madrid Saturday afternoon en route to Cairo, Egypt, she said. The ministry did not divulge why his request was denied.

Spain's decision came after bin Laden appealed the country's initial decision Wednesday to deny him asylum. The man, who is married to a British citizen, previously was denied asylum in Britain. He holds a Saudi passport.

Bin Laden, who is in his late 20s, stepped off a plane from Cairo at Madrid's Barajas International Airport during a stopover late Monday and informed authorities that he planned to request asylum, the spokeswoman said.

He was taken to a secure area of the airport for asylum seekers while his request was processed.

He prepared his formal asylum request Tuesday at the airport with the help of a translator, the spokeswoman said. It was not known on what grounds bin Laden based his request.

He has publicly called on his father -- who is the leader of al Qaeda and the world's most-wanted man -- to abandon terrorism.

Last year, 7,664 people requested asylum in Spain. The government granted that status to only 570, the spokeswoman said.

    Good for Spain!!

But in THIS country, the Illegal Auntie of the president can not only ignore a deportation after her asylum is denied, live on the taxpayers dime, but now gets a "second look" at her case instead of deportation.

Lesson to Bin Laden's son: Next time come here, You won't have to worry about being deported

Bin Laden son under investigation at Cairo airport

    By PAUL SCHEMM
    Associated Press Writer

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- The son of al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden was questioned at the Cairo airport by Egyptian officials on Saturday after his application for asylum in Spain was rejected, said an airport security official.

Omar Osama bin Laden sought asylum in Spain, claiming he wound not be safe if returned to an Arab country. Spain said his application did not meet its requirements. Bin Laden, 27, and his wife were then sent back to Egypt, where they have lived for the past year.

Egyptian officials said they were opening an investigation to determine what prompted the couple to seek political asylum in Spain.

The Egyptian airport official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press, said a decision had not yet been made to allow them in the country.

Zaina Alsabah, the younger bin Laden's 52-year-old British wife, told the Associated Press by phone that the couple had applied for asylum in Spain because their residency permits in Cairo were not renewed and they had been threatened.

"We knew we weren't safe, if we stayed (in Egypt) we would be imprisoned," she said. "Our lives are in danger, we've been threatened already. We've been threatened by two princes in the Bin Laden family."

The Bin Ladens are an influential construction family in Saudi Arabia. Alsabah has appealed to Saudi King Abdullah to protect them.

"We believe that the king could help us and the king could give us protection," she said.

The younger bin Laden, 27, flew to Spain on Monday with his wife and asked for asylum, spending a week in a transit area at Madrid's Barajas Airport while his case was considered.

Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba confirmed that bin Laden's son had been deported, saying his application for asylum did not meet any Spanish requirements. The Interior Ministry denied his bid on Wednesday, and turned back the appeal Friday night.

The government says it usually seeks a recommendation from the U.N. refugee agency in asylum request cases, and that the agency had also recommended against asylum.

Omar Osama bin Laden - one of the al-Qaida leader's 19 children - caused a tabloid storm last year after marrying a British woman, a 52-year-old who changed her name to Zaina Alsabah.

The couple have been living in Cairo. The younger bin Laden has not renounced his father, but has said he wants to be an "ambassador for peace" between the Muslim world and the West.

Osama bin Laden is believed to be hiding in the Pakistan-Afghan border region.

The younger bin Laden moved to Afghanistan with his father in 1996 after living with him in Sudan, and trained at an al-Qaida camp. But Omar has said he has not seen his father since he left Afghanistan in 2000 and returned to his homeland of Saudi Arabia.

Some of Osama bin Laden's family members live in or were living in the US on 9-11.

One evil person, does not make a whole family bad.

You're so right Dixie......even in the case of monsters like Bin Laden, the family is often no more guilty by association than your neighbor down the street is guilty for the criminal behavior of their child.

In fact, the Bin Ladens and Husseins of this world, right along with others just like them, do not have any compunction about inflicting brutal and atrocious acts upon even their own closest family members.

While I only know of one daughter currently still living here.....who was also living and working in the NYC area at the time of 911.......there were quite a few Bin Ladens here who, after the attacks, had to change their names and move elsewhere because they were in danger.

They were instantly assumed to be complicit in the attacks simply because of who they are, with no consideration being given to the fact that a few of them......including the daughter........were actually caught up in the events of that day, in going about their daily business, just as every other innocent impacted had been victimized.
