Soros media group reaches deep into taxpayers' pockets

A media watchdog group has discovered an international media group backed by billionaire George Soros has received millions in taxpayer funds – and those funds often are used to support efforts in regions hostile to the United States.
The Media Research Center reports that Internews, a global non-profit media organization founded in 1982 by self-described Marxist and anti-war protester Soros, has received more than $364 million from the State Department and USAID since 2002 (see breakdown below). That accounts for 80 percent of the organization's funding, primarily in the form of federal grants.
Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture for MRC, asks: "How is it that a man who spends a lot of his time undermining America's global position – and that's George Soros – is so influential in a group that's getting hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars?"
According to Gainor, the leftist group – with former board members like Susan Rice and Soros – is using taxpayer dollars to promote issues like global warming and even working with governmental agencies to issue foreign relations propaganda.

"This group is in something like 70 countries," he notes. "It just recently was advertising for new people in Syria. Now Syria's in the midst of a civil war – [and] it's advertising for people with journals and credentials?"
Gainor says to put the problem into perspective, Internews has received an average of more than $83,000/day from American taxpayers over the past 12 years.
