Connecticut Stunned by What Could Be a Massive, State-Wide Act of ‘Civil Disobedience

Officials in Connecticut Stunned by What Could Be a Massive, State-Wide Act of ‘Civil Disobedience’ by Gun Owners

Feb. 13, 2014 12:04am Jason Howerton

On Jan. 1, 2014, tens of thousands of defiant gun owners seemingly made the choice not to register their semi-automatic rifles with the state of Connecticut as required by a hastily-passed gun control law. By possessing unregistered so-called “assault rifles,” they all technically became guilty of committing Class D felonies overnight.

Police had received 47,916 applications for “assault weapons certificates” and 21,000 incomplete applications as of Dec. 31, Lt. Paul Vance told The Courant.

At roughly 50,000 applications, officials estimate that as little as 15 percent of the covered semi-automatic rifles have actually been registered with the state. “No one has anything close to definitive figures, but the most conservative estimates place the number of unregistered assault weapons well above 50,000, and perhaps as high as 350,000,” the report states.

Needless to say, officials and some lawmakers are stunned.

Due to the new gun control bill passed in April, likely at least 20,000 individual people — possibly as many as 100,000 — are now in direct violation of the law for refusing to register their guns. As we noted above, that act is now a Class D Felony.

Mike Lawlor, “the state’s top official in criminal justice,” suggested maybe the firearms unit in Connecticut could “sent them a letter.” However, he said an aggressive push to prosecute gun owners in the state is not going to happen at this point.

Lawlor, the undersecretary for criminal justice policy in the state Office of Policy and Management, also suggested that the legislature should reopen the registration period to encourage more gun owners to register their firearms.

You may recall the viral photo of Connecticut gun owners waiting in line to register their guns in December, which one person said reminded them of the “Weimar Germany.”

Republican state Sen. Tony Guglielmo told The Courant he recently spoke to a constituent at a meeting in Ashford, who informed him that some of his friends with semi-automatic rifles are intentionally taking a stand.

“He made the analogy to prohibition,” the lawmaker recalled. “I said, ‘You’re talking about civil disobedience, and he said ‘Yes.’”

Guglielmo said he really thought the “vast majority would register.”

Other officials think the low registration numbers are due to ignorance on behalf of gun owners who aren’t aware of the new law. It’s impossible to know the main reason why gun owners aren’t showing up to register their guns without hearing from them directly, though Guglielmo’s constituent indicates at least some are practicing “civil disobedience.”

“Sorting out the number of potential new felons is a guessing game. State police have not added up the total number of people who registered the 50,000 firearms, Vance said. So even if we knew the number of illegal guns in the state, we’d have a hard time knowing how many owners they had,” the report concludes.

OhioOhio National Guard Training Envisions Right-Wing Terrorism

By: Jesse Hathaway | February 10, 2014

Ohio National Guard 52nd Civil Support Team Documents from an Ohio National Guard (ONG) training drill conducted last January reveal the details of a mock disaster where Second Amendment supporters with “anti-government” opinions were portrayed as domestic terrorists.
The Ohio National Guard’s Civil Support Team practices in a May 2013 drill at Put-in-Bay

The ONG 52nd Civil Support Team training scenario involved a plot from local school district employees to use biological weapons in order to advance their beliefs about “protecting Gun Rights and Second Amendment rights.”
Portsmouth Fire Chief Bill Raison told NBC 3 WSAZ-TV in Huntington, West Virginia that the drill accurately represented “the reality of the world we live in,” adding that such training “helps us all be prepared.”
Internal ONG documents provided to Media Trackers after repeated delays provide further context to what WSAZ-TV reported last winter.
In the disaster-preparedness scenario, two Portsmouth Junior High School employees poisoned school lunches with mustard gas, acting on orders from white-nationalist leader William Pierce.
The ONG team discovered biological weapons being produced in the school, requiring activation of containment and decontamination procedures.
Participants in the disaster drill located documents expressing the school employees’ “anti-government” sentiments, as well as a note identifying Pierce as the fictional right-wing terrorists’ leader.
ONG’s 52nd Civil Support Unit participated in a similar drill involving left-wing terrorists with Athens County first responders last year; public officials apologized for that training the next day in response to complaints from local environmentalist groups.
No apology to Ohioans who support limited government and the Second Amendment appears to be forthcoming.
Scioto County Emergency Management Agency director Kim Carver refused to comment, telling Media Trackers she was “not going to get into an Ohio Army National Guard issue that you have with them.”
Ohio National Guard Communications Director James Sims II suggested Media Trackers was “inferring” from the ONG document’s contents as opposed to “what’s actually in the report.”
After excerpts of the report were read to him, Sims said it was “not relevant” to understand why conservatives may feel unduly targeted by ONG’s training scenario.
“Okay, I’m gonna stop ya there. I’m going to quit this conversation,” Sims concluded. “You have a good day.”
Buckeye Firearms Association spokesman Chad Baus told Media Trackers that “it is a scary day indeed when law enforcement are being trained that Second Amendment advocates are the enemy,”
“The revelation of this information is appalling to me, and to all citizens of Ohio who are true conservatives and patriots, who don’t have guns for any other reason than that the Second Amendment gives them that right,” Portage County TEA Party Executive Director Tom Zawistowski said in a separate Media Trackers interview.
Media Trackers reached out to Portsmouth-area state legislators Representative Terry Johnson and Senator Joe Uecker for comment about the drill, which took place within their respective districts. Neither replied to phone calls or emails in time for publication.
ONG’s January 2013 training exercise is one of many instances where government officials have identified those with limited-government or pro-Second Amendment opinions as potential terror threats.
In 2009, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security warned law enforcement agencies that a predicted rise in“right-wing extremism” would be fueled by “proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans” and “the election of the first African American president.”
Throughout modern history, groups and individuals associated with left-wing causes have proven far more likely to commit acts of domestic terror.
In 2012, members of the anarcho-socialist Occupy Cleveland movement were arrested and prosecuted for attempting to destroy the Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge with explosives, to commemorate International Workers’ Day.
Last year, leftist groups Earth First and the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) claimed responsibility for the sabotage and property destruction of businesses in Washington and Van Wert counties.
[Editor's note, 02/12/2014: Corrected Portsmouth Fire Chief Bill Raison's name and title in the third paragraph, both of which were incorrect in the WSAZ-TV story cited here.]

Tens of thousands of Connecticut gun owners are reportedly refusing to register their guns and defying state law.

A Republican state senator told The Kelly File that residents think their rights are being violated.
Reports: CT Gun Owners Refusing to Register Their Guns

Video at the Page Link:

Tens of thousands of Connecticut gun owners are reportedly refusing to register their guns.

Connecticut law bans the sale of assault weapons in the state and expands the definition of what classifies as an assault weapon. Residents can still own them as long as they were registered with state police by Dec. 31, 2013.

By the deadline, nearly 48,000 registered, and 2,100 applications were incomplete. But even conservative estimates of the number of guns in Connecticut range from 150,000-350,000.
Republican state Sen. Tony Guglielmo says residents think that their rights are being violated, and they refuse to abide by the law. He says he has never seen a law willfully disobeyed like this.

Taxing Your 2nd Amendment Right!?

Not registering is a felony, but there is no amnesty at this point. That means that if a resident were to try to register their weapon today, they could be arrested.

The CCD= Conneticut Civil Disobedience

Could history actually be repeating itself? Remember the Revolutionary War started in the New England area, which was sparked by civil disobedience; the Boston Tea party in 1773, and the Battle of Lexington and Concord being fought near Massachusetts Bay in 1775.

Now February of 2014, the State of Connecticut is seeing many acts of civil disobedience, and its over weapons.

From The Blaze:
Anywhere from 20,000 to 100,000 gun owners in Connecticut became Class D felons overnight after failing to register their semi-automatic rifles with the state of Connecticut as required by a hastily passed gun control law last year. The deadline for registration was January 1, 2014, and it is now believed tens of thousands of gun owners chose not to register as an act of defiance.

This is in Connecticut, deep in liberal country, and many of these gun owners are liberal. This news is not to scare anyone, to put panic into the Tea Party, us the conservatives. The liberals in that state have made a bad mistake; proud arrogant people usually do.

American Patriots; the Connecticut lawmakers may have actually done the Tea Party a favor, accidentally shown us their hand, and may have inadvertently revealed Obama's hand as well. Let us find away with cool heads to discover how we can take advantage of this serious liberal blunder, to really aid us in taking back our nation.

Remember we do not advocate any violence here, that puts us on the same level as the liberals; and we do not advocate pacifism either; we still advocate using the tools and resources listed below until we have no other choice. Lets allow the other loon libs to make more serious errors, allow them to help us by defeating themselves, as the British did in 1775.

THOUSANDS OF CONNECTICUT GUN OWNERS 'FLOUT' NEW REGISTRATION LAW

by AWR HAWKINS 14 Feb 2014 374 POST A COMMENT

The December 31 deadline for complying with Connecticut's new "assault weapons" registration requirement is long past, but estimates show "as little as 15 percent of the rifles classified as assault weapons owned by Connecticut residents were registered."

The Courant reports that this means thousands of Connecticut gun owners were committing Class D felonies on January 1. Estimates for the number of owners of "assault weapons" in this position range between 20,000 and 100,000.
State Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford) responded to the dearth of registrations: "I honestly thought from my own standpoint that the vast majority would register." He then added, "If you pass laws that people have no respect for and they don't follow them, then you have a real problem."
There is no clear indicator for how many ignored registration out of civil disobedience versus how many simply failed to register out of ignorance of the new law's requirements.
Either way, Mike Lawlor of Connecticut's Office of Policy and Management says the law has not failed. Rather, because all the unregistered guns are "now illegal," they are out of circulation, and "the goal [was] to have fewer of these types of weapons in circulation."

Connecticut’s Largest Paper Upset That Connecticut Gun Owners Are Ignoring Law

February 19, 2014 by Bob Livingston

As we told you Monday, Connecticut gun owners are ignoring that State’s unConstitutional gun law requiring the owners of “military-style” rifles to register their firearms with the State police and receive an “assault weapons” certificate in order to legally own the weapons.
The law called for the registration to be completed by Jan. 1. But as of last week, only about 50,000 applications for the certificate had been filed, meaning as many as 350,000 Connecticut gun owners have decided to become felons under State law rather than register their weapons.
This civil disobedience has not sat well with the State’s lawmakers or elite, though they’re not sure what to do about it. Now the State’s largest newspaper, The Hartford Courant, is pressing the Governor to enforce the law.
In an editorial last week, the paper called for the use of the background check database as a way to find weapons purchasers who had not registered their firearms.
Although willful noncompliance with the law is doubtless a major issue, it’s possible that many gun owners are unaware of their obligation to register military-style assault weapons and would do so if given another chance.
But the bottom line is that the state must try to enforce the law. Authorities should use the background check database as a way to find assault weapon purchasers who might not have registered those guns in compliance with the new law.
Using the background check database to go after weapons owners would be unlawful. But such is the nature of statists who believe the government can use, misuse or ignore laws on a whim if the cause is good for the state.
Gun owners and 2nd Amendment preservationists have long said that background checks and registries are precursors to confiscation. Such claims have been met with protest and derision by the gun grabbers, hoplophobes and those who seek to erase the 2nd Amendment from our consciousness.
But gun confiscation using registry databases is no fantasy. It’s already begun in New York based on the number of rounds a gun holds and on medical reports. Last year, a bill was introduced in the Washington State Legislature that would have called for home weapons inspections by the county sheriffs, and California allocated $24 million to aid the State’s Department of Justice in gun-confiscation efforts.
Back to the Connecticut issue. It’s doubtless that a PR campaign — as called for by the newspaper — to reinforce the State’s gun registry and threats of prosecution will cause some of the State’s recalcitrant gun owners to reconsider and register their firearms. It’s also doubtless that many gun owners will simply continue to refuse to comply.
The big question then becomes: What happens next? Will the State begin to forcefully confiscate weapons? And if so, will gun owners resist?
It seems the Courant wants to see this conflict come to a head. If that’s the case, as The Truth About Guns writes:
Is that a threat to end civil disobedience by force of arms from the oldest continuously-published newspaper in the United States, the The (sic) Constitution State’s largest dead tree daily rag? Yes. (Although you may not be surprised to hear that the the Times Mirror (the Los Angeles Times‘ parent company) bought the Courant in 1979.) And if the Courant is talking war you can bet Governor Malloy’s boys are doing the same.
The statists who enacted this law better let sleeping dogs lie. Or they will have to face the consequences, too. That’s not a threat. It’s a prediction.

If called on to enforce the law, Connecticut’s law enforcement apparatus had better be mindful of the 3 percent.
