Suspect Arrested After Christmas Tree at Fox News Headquarters Torched

A suspect has been arrested after a large Christmas tree at the headquarters of Fox News was torches late on Tuesday night, the holiday decoration totally burned in what potentially amounts to an anti-Christian or political hate crime.
The tree, located at Fox’s HQ at West 48th Street and 6th Avenue in New York City, was totally engulfed in flames before firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire.
Fox News host Shannon Beam announced that the tree had been consumed in flames late on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department confirmed that a suspect had been detained in connection to the fire, suggesting criminal and arson involvement in the burning of the tree. A News 4 employee witnessed NYPD officers apprehending a suspect near the tree around midnight.
Video of the fire, which burned up and down the entire 30-foot Christmas tree, suggested that the use of an incendiary device was possible in the act. It’s not easy to set a fire of this magnitude without fuel or gasoline, which isn’t easy to apply to an object that’s that tall.

The suspect was identified Craig Tamanaha.
Tamanaha is said to be homeless and has prior arrests.

Criminal defense lawyer Mark Bederow said he will likely be free by late Thursday.
From Fox News:

But former Manhattan prosecutor turned criminal defense lawyer Mark Bederow said he will likely be free by late Thursday since his crimes do not qualify for bail. “You can’t give the Christmas tree an order of protection, so security will have to stand guard,” he said.
“There’s no question that the legislature has got to reevaluate the nooks and crannies of the bail statute because it’s leading to absurd outcomes.”
Officers nabbed Tamanaha as he allegedly tried to flee the scene. The fire was extinguished but not before the red, white, and blue decorated tree was turned into charred wood.
Tamanaha, who is believed to be homeless, cannot be held on bail for the alleged crimes due to the criminal justice reforms enacted in January 2020.
He faces one count each of second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment, fifth-degree arson, second-degree criminal nuisance, third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal tampering and disorderly conduct. All the arrest charges are misdemeanors and judges do not have the discretion to set bail on any of the counts.
