Suspect named in killing of Polytechnic football player
Police are seeking David Aranda Fernandez of North Hollywood in the shooting death of Edward Satterstron, 16.

Police today said they are seeking an 18-year-old man in the fatal shooting of a Polytechnic High School football player.

Authorities identified the suspect as David Aranda Fernandez of North Hollywood. They say he allegedly shot 16-year-old Edward Satterstron of Sun Valley multiple times in the chest Saturday night near a Taco Bell in North Hollywood.


Police said Satterstron ran into the restaurant after he was shot and collapsed.

Witnesses told police Satterstron was walking with a female friend when a man pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

His mother, who asked that her name not be used, told the Contra Costa Times that he was like a father figure for his siblings.

"He was such a good kid," she said. "He took care of his six brothers and sisters like a father. They all adored him and looked up to him so much. He was a parent figure in their lives."

Satterstron wanted to play football for USC after graduation, his girlfriend told the newspaper.

"He wanted to be a Trojan," she said. "His room is covered in USC posters. . . . He wanted to go to school there more than anything."

On May 31, Jesus "Jesse" Florian, 17, of Arleta was fatally shot at a party in Sun Valley. Florian was described as a standout football player at Polytechnic High School.

H.S. Football Player Fatally Shot In North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- The gunman who killed a 16-year-old student at John Francis Polytechnic High School -- the school's second football player to be fatally shot this year -- remained at large Monday, police said.


Edward Satterstron of Sun Valley was shot multiple times in the chest at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday in the 8200 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, near Roscoe Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Witnesses told police Satterstron was walking with a friend in the area when a Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

On Monday, police identified a suspect as 18-year-old David Aranda Hernandez. Authorities said they are betting someone in Sun Valley is going to turn in Hernandez.

His mother, who asked that her name not be used, told the Contra Costa Times that Satterstron was like a father figure for his siblings.
