Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell actually made this threat - in the same Twitter breath as he mocked gun owners for thinking they may need protection from their own Government. Which is, Eric, pretty much the entire Premise of the Second Amendment, and which has unerringly been proven as an inevitability throughout the history of man from the time the first "ruling class," was conceived of. ~Brian (Update Edit: I actually have a few folks commenting that the 2nd Amendment is not premised on the need to protect oneself from one's own Government. They are in error, as most clearly stated by the creators of our nation. Read away: https://thefederalistpapers.org/seco...A6A_sg8F4muXkQ

Gun grabber wants to run for president.
Democrat Who Called For Nuking Gun Owners Eyes 2020 Presidential Run
by Brock Simmons November 19, 2018 149 Comments
The congressman who called for nuking gun owners last week, Eric Swalwell, has allegedly been considering a run for President in 2020. This was originally reported as early as summer of 2017, but has recently been getting some talk again.
On November 8th, reports once again surfaced surrounding Swalwell. Politico reports:Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell plans to run for president in 2020, according to a person close to the California congressman who is familiar with his plans. After his “nuke gun owners” covfefe, Swalwell has taken to twitter to double down on his dementia, even mocking gun owners:
“He’s definitely running,” the source said.
This weekend, Swalwell will be the first potential presidential candidate to visit Iowa after the midterms with a trip to meet the Asian & Latino Coalition in Des Moines and Iowa Democratic Party chairs in Dubuque. The travel to Iowa was first reported by NBC News and confirmed by POLITICO.
The 37-year-old Swalwell has been positioning himself for a run over the past year, with several trips to early primary voting states and endorsements of three young congressional candidates in Iowa and New Hampshire through his Future Forum PAC. He has also asked for lists of potential staffers for the early-state contests.
The three-term congressman grew up in Iowa and was heavily involved in Marlyand Gov. Martin O’Malley’s unsuccessful presidential run in 2016. O’Malley has said he is keeping an “open mind” about running for president himself in 2020.
Swalwell would be a heavy underdog in the 2020 race against the expected high-profile candidacies from the likes of Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, and others.
But Democratic activists in the early states say that Swalwell has gone over well during his early visits.

America’s gun debate in one thread.
1) I propose a buy-back of assault weapons
2) Gun owner says he’ll go to war with USA if that happens
3) I sarcastically point out USA isn’t losing to his assault weapon (it’s not the 18th Century)
4) I’m called a tyrant

Don’t be so dramatic. No one is nuking anyone or threatening that. I’m telling you this is not the 18th Century. The argument that you would go to war with your government if an assault weapons ban was in place is ludicrous and inflames the gun debate. Which is what you want.

So our government would nuke its own country in order to take guns? Wow

But at the same time, this Shooter McGavin wannabe calls for “decorum” in the White House.
Rep. Eric Swalwell ✔ @RepSwalwell
“There must be decorum at the White House” makes for a pretty good 2020 slogan. But as a statement from @PressSec, it’s absurd. #FreePress

A staunchly anti-gun California Democrat made headlines after he suggested using America’s nuclear arsenal against gun owners who refuse to hand over their hardware.
As reported at Fox News, Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., made the remark on Twitter after another user said that Swalwell wants a war with gun owners: “Because that’s what you would get” with his gun control agenda.

So basically @RepSwalwell wants a war. Because that’s what you would get. You’re outta your ****ing mind if you think I’ll give up my rights and give the gov all the power.
Rep. Eric Swalwell ✔ @RepSwalwell
And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities.

It’s easy to point out how insane it is that a sitting member of Congress is talking about confiscating the property of American citizens and using nukes against those who don’t comply, because it’s pretty insane. Whether or not you believe his claims of being facetious is up you.
But it’s also nice to see an anti-gun politician take the mask off for a moment to remind us what the debate about the Second Amendment is really about and why 2A exists in the first place. The talk about gun control is around these mythical “commonsense” laws that we can put in place that will supposedly make Americans safer through further firearms regulation. “We don’t want to take your guns away,” the argument goes, “we just want some common sense.”
But whenever gun control boosters start talking about these “commonsense” policies, things tend to fall apart when we get down to the details. So far, I’ve yet to run into a proposal that:
- Is a legitimate policy innovation over what’s already on the books (i.e. isn’t just better enforcement of already existing law or stiffer penalties for breaking it).
- Passes muster with the Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and 14th Amendments.
- Isn’t completely ignorant of how guns work in the first place (e.g., defining “assault weapons” by common cosmetic features).
- Would actually deter or reduce mass shootings or gun violence in quantity or severity, rather than just creating more soft targets – by disarming them – for those who were already going to break the law anyway.
This brings us back to the natural end of the gun control movement: bans and confiscation. Ultimately, this is where most anti-gun politicians and professional activists want to end up; those “commonsense” measures are stepping stones.
While some Americans would undoubtedly roll over and acquiesce to such an unjust action, a large number of them wouldn’t give up so easily. That kind of defiance against unjust rule is actually why America exists in the first place, in case anyone slept through the high school history class that covered what happened at Lexington and Concord.
In fact, another small dose of military history might actually help Swalwell understand the situation as well. In order to have to have the kind of “short war” that Swalwell predicts here, the U.S. government probably would have to go nuclear. Those who argue that the military could swiftly disarm the American public seem to forget that the two longest and most unsuccessful military engagements in American history have been in Afghanistan and Vietnam — against dedicated local populations with less sophisticated firepower and training.
But without historical ignorance, the American gun control movement wouldn’t exist at all. And statements and attitudes like Swalwell’s are exactly why the Second Amendment exists in the first place.
