2 killed, 15 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago

Two men were killed and at least 15 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago throughout the weekend.

In the most recent fatal shooting, a man was shot to death early Sunday in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.

About 1:55 a.m., the 25-year-old was a passenger in the front seat of a parked car with two other males in the 12200 block of South Racine when another male walked up and fired shots, police said.

The man was shot in the right side of the head and the driver took him to a Calumet Park police station less than a mile away, police said.

He was then taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, where he was pronounced dead at 2:27 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. His name was withheld Sunday afternoon.

Early Saturday, a shooting in the Riff Music Lounge in the South Loop left 36-year-old Michael Ricks dead and another man wounded, authorities said.

About 1:20 a.m., Ricks and another man in the club — located in the 2200 block of South Michigan — were arguing about a woman, authorities said. The other man was escorted out of the club and later returned, pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Ricks, of the 2300 block of South State, was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

A 39-year-old man who was inside the club at the time but was not involved in the argument was also shot, police said. He had a wound to the abdomen and took himself to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

In the most recent nonfatal incident, a 30-year-old man was shot in the Grand Crossing neighborhood Sunday night.

About 7:20 p.m., the man was shot in the shoulder in the 7500 block of South Dorchester, police said, citing preliminary information.

The man took himself to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.

    Further details were not available.

On Saturday afternoon, a teenage boy and a man were hurt in separate South Side incidents that happened at the same time about a mile apart.

The shootings, which appear to be related, happened at 4:23 p.m. in the Auburn Gresham and West Englewood neighborhoods, police said.

A 15-year-old boy was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle in the 7000 block of South Laflin when a black SUV pulled up, and someone inside fired shots, police said. The teen was shot in the leg and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

In the other shooting, an 18-year-old man was shot in the hand in the 7600 block of South Hermitage, but additional details were not available, police said. He took himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was in good condition.

At least 11 others have been wounded in shootings since 2 p.m. Friday.

One Dead, Eight Wounded In Monday Shootings

    March 31, 2015 6:20 AM

CHICAGO (STMW) – One man was killed and at least eight other people — including a 62-year-old woman — were wounded in shootings across the city on Monday. Two of the shootings happened within a block of a school.

About 1:50 p.m., a man was shot to death in Englewood, police said.

Keith Stokes, 24, was riding in a vehicle in the 5700 block of South Morgan when another vehicle approached and someone inside started shooting. Stokes was shot several times in the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:07 p.m., police and the medical examiner’s office said.

Stokes, a documented gang member, lived in the 6200 block of South Campbell, authorities said.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred on the same block as an elementary school in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

About 8:15 p.m., a 19-year-old man was in the 8000 block of South Normal when a gray van pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. The van then drove off, south on Normal.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said. His condition had stabilized.

The shooting occurred on the same block as Westcott Elementary School.

About 7 p.m., a 62-year-old woman was in the 7300 block of South Winchester when a male got out of a van and shot toward another group of males also on the block, police said.

The woman heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. She suffered a graze wound to her lower back.

She was taken to a hospital in good condition, police said. Authorities said the woman was likely not the intended target of the shooting.

About 15 minutes earlier, a man — whose exact age was not known — was shot in the foot in the 4200 block of West Adams, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

A man was shot in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood about 6:30 p.m. The man — described as an “adult” by police — was shot in the right arm in the 7100 block of South Vernon about 6:30 p.m., police said. He took himself to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center.

About 4 p.m., a 29-year-old man was walking in the 3800 block of West Chicago when he heard gunfire about 4 p.m. He realized he was shot in the foot and was taken to Norwegian-American Hospital. He was listed in good condition, police said.

Twenty minutes earlier, a man was shot in a vehicle in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The 23-year-old was stopped in his vehicle in the 4200 block of West Belden when two people walked up, yelled gang slogans and fired shots, police said.

The man, who suffered a graze wound to the hand, fled the scene and was later taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center by a family member, police said. He was treated and released from the hospital by Monday night.

At 3:30 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood.

The man was shot in the leg in the 5800 block of South Laflin and taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in good condition, police said.

The day’s first shooting was reported about 11:10 a.m. near Hales Franciscan High School in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the shoulder in the 4900 block of South Langley, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
