The Taliban this week conducted its first public flogging in a soccer stadium since the 1990s. It happened in Afghanistan's east, after the Taliban Supreme Court sentence 11 men and three women "for different sins, including adultery, robbery and other forms of corruption" - including gay sex.
The group of 14 were whipped in front of a crowd on Wednesday in Logar province. A Taliban statement proudly boasted that in attendance at the stadium to witness the punishment was a crowd of "scholars, authorities, and people."

The disturbing spectacle, which the Taliban was known for during its pre-9/11 rule over Afghanistan, came simultaneous to announcements of "implementing Sharia Law" more fully across the country.
The Taliban was also notorious for public executions, including stonings of women accused of adultery, during their 1990s rule. Women and convicts were sometimes shot at point-blank range in front of crowds.
Since the US withdrawal from the country in 2021 as the Taliban rolled into Kabul, there have been widespread reports of the brutal Islamist government bringing back punishments like amputation for breaking "major sins" of Islam.
Bringing back the football stadium public punishments strongly suggests such violent and extreme judicial measures are about to become commonplace once again for "moral crimes".
The US special envoy for women, girls and human rights in Afghanistan, Rina Amiri, condemned the development. "This is both appalling and a dangerous sign that the Taliban are becoming more defiant in showing the world that they are embracing the policies of the past," she said in a statement posted on Twitter.

On Friday, the Republican controlled House launched an investigation into President Joe Biden for his botched withdraw from Afghanistan that left 13 U.S. troops dead.
Rep. Michael McCaul, a Republican from Texas and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has initiated an investigation into Joe Biden’s withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan in August 2021. He sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday seeking information on the White House’s actions leading up to the withdrawal.
In a statement, McCaul said, “It is absurd and disgraceful that the Biden administration has repeatedly denied our longstanding oversight requests and continues to withhold information related to the withdrawal.”
“In the event of continued noncompliance, the Committee will use the authorities available to it to enforce these requests as necessary, including through a compulsory process,” he added.
“We owe this to the American people, especially our service members and veterans,” McCaul continued.Check out what the Post Millennial reported:The lawmaker promised to “pursue this investigation until all our questions are answered and all parties responsible are held accountable.”The Republican controlled House has been going on the offensive since taking control. Biden announced his withdrawal plans in April 2021, stating troops would start leaving on May 1. The US military abandoned Bagram Air Base in July and left behind 7 billion dollars worth of military equipment and assets. The Taliban entered Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, on August 15, causing Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani to flee for Tajikistan.
In 2021, Republicans on the Foreign Affairs Committee released a report condemning Biden for the withdrawal.
On August 26, 2021, 13 Marines were killed by an ISIS-K suicide bomber outside of the Hamid Karzai International Airport and more than 60 others were injured.
McCaul, in October, committed himself to investigating what exactly happened at the White House with regard to the botched withdrawal.
Fox News reports:The investigation led by Jordan, R-Ohio, comes one day after Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to examine the matter, former U.S. attorney Robert Hur. The Justice Department escalated it to a special counsel investigation from a mere review Thursday after a second stash of classified documents was found inside the garage of Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, home. The first documents were found inside the Washington, D.C., offices of the Penn Biden Center think tank.Jordan says he will also look into the concealment of information by the DOJ, as the White House admitted that the first batch of documents at the Penn Biden Center were discovered *before* the 2022 midterm elections, but were not disclosed publicly until this week.
“We are conducting oversight of the Justice Department’s actions with respect to former Vice President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents, including the apparently unauthorized possession of classified material at a Washington, D.C., private office and in the garage of his Wilmington, Delaware, residence,” Jordan and Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., wrote in a letter sent Friday to Garland.
“It is unclear when the Department first came to learn about the existence of these documents, and whether it actively concealed this information from the public on the eve of the 2022 elections,” Jordan wrote. “It is also unclear what interactions, if any, the Department had with President Biden or his representatives about his mishandling of classified material. The Department’s actions here appear to depart from how it acted in similar circumstances.”

A senior Republican promised to hold the Biden administration to account on Monday amid a fresh report that weapons abandoned to the Taliban during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan had made their way to another conflict.
Authorities in Indian-controlled Kashmir claimed that Pakistan-linked militants have been seen with M4s, M16s and other American arms that have rarely been spotted before in the decades-long conflict.
Rep. Mike Waltz, a former Green Beret, said it was the predictable result of the chaotic 2021 withdrawal.
‘House Republicans warned this would happen yet there was zero oversight or investigation into Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan under Nancy Pelosi,’ he told DailyMail.com.
‘Rest assured, we will be holding hearings and looking into the consequences of leaving so much military equipment behind.’

House Republicans are launching an investigation into the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
On Friday it was announced they were requesting documents from the Biden administration to understand how the withdrawal was handled and what went wrong, following a nearly two-decade-long war that ended in 2021. As the U.S. presence in the country drew to a close, the Taliban made substantial territorial gains, prompting President Joe Biden to deploy troops to protect the airport perimeter and facilitate the evacuation of U.S. Embassy personnel.
The withdrawal was a significant moment in Biden’s presidency, and his approval ratings plummeted after the operation, particularly when American soldiers were tragically killed in a bombing at the airport. In response, Republicans on the House Oversight Committee have launched an investigation into the withdrawal.
Comer and other GOP members wrote:
“The Biden administration was tragically unprepared for the Afghanistan withdrawal and their decisions in the region directly resulted in a national security and humanitarian catastrophe,” Comer said in a statement.
“U.S. servicemen and women lost their lives, Americans were abandoned, taxpayer dollars are unaccounted for, the Taliban gained access to military equipment, progress for Afghan women was derailed, and the entire area is now under hostile Taliban control. The American people deserve answers and the Biden Administration’s ongoing obstruction of this investigation is unacceptable.”
In an assault outside the airport, members of the terrorist organization ISIS murdered 13 American service members and numerous Afghans. In response, US forces launched attacks aimed at preventing further acts of terror.

The Taliban seized the presidential palace in Kabul on Aug. 15 — despite being dramatically outnumbered by the Afghan military, which was long assisted by U.S. and NATO coalition forces.
Meanwhile, thousands of Afghans swarmed the tarmac at the airport desperate to flee Taliban rule.
Biden deployed thousands of U.S. troops to Kabul to help evacuate U.S. Embassy staff and secure the airport.
Back in September of 2021, Biden defended the decision. He claimed that continuing the war would not be in the national interest and that he had inherited an agreement with the Taliban from the previous administration. Biden’s speech came amid criticism and scrutiny of the chaotic and violent nature of the withdrawal process.
“The bottom line, 90% of Americans in Afghanistan who wanted to leave were able to leave,” Biden proclaimed. “And for those remaining Americans, there is no deadline. We remain committed to get them out if they want to come out.”
