Trump-appointed US attorney recused from Michael Cohen investigation

ABC News has learned that Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, is recused from the Michael Cohen investigation.

Two sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News Berman was not involved in the decision to raid Cohen's office because of the recusal.

The recusal was approved by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

The raid of Cohen's handled by others in the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and approved by a federal judge.

Berman is a Trump appointee with ties to Rudy Giuliani who donated money to the 2016 Trump campaign.

The U.S. Attorney's office declined to comment.

Aha!! This is the dirtiest most rotten thing in the world. Berman was made to recuse himself because he probably said "what in the hell are you up to!"

I'm sure Trump will be happy to hear that Berman, his appointee, refused to go along with this crap.

You're going out on a limb with that assumption. What evidence do you have that would indicate Berman didn't willingly recuse himself? Certainly sounds like he had good reason to do so. There are still some folks out there, like Jeff Sessions, who still have integrity. Berman is probably being guided by the same ethical standards and DOJ policy that required Session to recuse himself, not because someone forced him.

I'm not saying Berman did or didn't willingly recuse himself, I'm just saying there is ample reason to believe he did so because the situation demanded it and he felt it was the right thing to do.

Making unsubstantiated claims as if their fact is never helpful. Just saying.

Well, what a great question. Because being appointed by the President is NOT cause to recuse. Otherwise Rosenstein would need to recuse himself, neither is having worked with or been "tied" to someone else who happened to donate to a political campaign, otherwise Mueller and his whole "special counsel" team would have to recuse themselves.

See, our Founders contemplated exactly what's going on here which is why Presidents have immunity from prosecution while they are Presidents.
