Trump shares old TSA pat-down video from QAnon, via Larry the Cable Guy

The #FakeMelania conspiracy theories are back and ‘The View’ took a deep dive

President Trump on Tuesday shared a nearly 2-year-old video of a TSA pat-down that originated from a QAnon conspiracy theorist’s Twitter account.

The two-minute video — which resurfaced in a tweet from actor James Woods that was retweeted by comedian Daniel Lawrence Whitney, better known as Larry the Cable Guy — showed a teenage boy being searched at an airport security checkpoint. It has been cited by far-right commentators as an example of overly intrusive government policing.

“Not a good situation!” Trump commented on his retweet of the video shortly before midnight. It was interspersed among tweets about the Electoral College, which he once wanted to abolish and now wants to keep.

30.4K people are talking about this

It wasn’t clear why the video was suddenly making the rounds on Twitter again, or what event might have brought it to the attention of the president.

The clip posted by Woods came from a Twitter account called Deep State Exposed, which is operated by Jeremy Stone, a follower of the so-called QAnon conspiracy theory that dark forces within the government are at work against Trump and his administration.

“TSA goes out of their way to hire high school dropouts with an inclination for sexual perversion,” Stone tweeted Monday. “It’s mind control!!!”

Woods’s tweet of the video was retweeted by Larry the Cable Guy, who wrote: “Absolutely ridiculous! How many times do you have to feel a kid up to figure out he’s not a threat? This is infuriating and hard to watch.”

The video went viral in 2017. But the clip shared by Stone, Woods, Larry the Cable Guy and President Trump does not provide full context.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, the 13-year-old passenger “underwent enhanced security screening, which included a pat-down, after his laptop alarmed an explosives trace detection machine” at the Dallas Fort-Worth airport.

“In total, the pat-down took approximately two minutes, and was observed by the mother and two police officers who were called to ease concerns of the mother,” the TSA said in a blog post. “The passengers were at the checkpoint for approximately 45 minutes, which included the time it took to discuss screening procedures with the mother and to screen three carry-on items that required further inspection.”

The video, the TSA noted, was filmed by the teen’s mother.

Of course it’s not the first time a conspiracy originating on the fringes of the Internet has made its way to the president’s Twitter feed.

In 2017, amid an outcry over his response to the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., Trump retweeted a tweet from Jack Posobiec, an alt-right media figure who had pushed the so-called PizzaGate conspiracy theory that top Democrats were involved in a child sex trafficking ring at a Washington, D.C., pizza parlor. Posobiec also championed the baseless conspiracy that the Democratic National Committee was behind the death of former staffer Seth Rich.

The same year, Trump retweeted a handful of anti-Muslim videos posted by the deputy leader of a British far-right group, prompting a public condemnation by British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Trump Hammers Disgusting Video Of TSA Agent Patting Down 13-Year-Old Boy

    March 20, 2019

    Joseph Curl

A disturbing video of a TSA agent patting down a 13-year-old boy with a mental disability has again gone viral on the internet, prompting even President Trump to weigh in this time on the disgusting incident.

The incident actually occurred two years ago, in March 2017. Jennifer Williamson was traveling with her family from Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport to San Diego for vacation. Before they could depart, though, her 13-year-old son, Aaron, was pulled from the security line to undergo one of those “random” checks by a Transportation Security Administration agent. Williamson posted a video on her Facebook page, which has since been viewed millions of times.

The video re-emerged in the last few days, first tweeted out by actor-turned-activist James Woods, who has more than 2 million Twitter followers. Late Tuesday, comedian Larry the Cable Guy, whose real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitley, followed suit, posting the video on his feed, which has more than 500,000 followers. In his post, Whitley said: “Absolutely ridiculous! How many times do you have to feel a kid up to figure out he’s not a threat? This is infuriating and hard to watch.”

Trump weighed in shortly after that. “Not a good situation!” Trump tweeted on Tuesday.

The re-emergence of the video prompted The Washington Post to post a story headlined, “Trump retweets QAnon conspiracy theorist, via Larry the Cable Guy, to slam the TSA.”

“From a QAnon conspiracy theorist to actor James Woods to comedian Larry the Cable Guy to the leader of the free world. Thus travels information in the age of Twitter and President Trump, who took a late-night swing at a familiar punching bag — the Transportation Security Administration — via a nearly two-year-old video spread by a character on the far fringes of the Internet,” wrote the Post.

The Post questioned the source of the video, not the contents itself.

But the source who belatedly brought the video to Trump’s attention, through a winding path of Twitter celebrities, is likely to raise new questions about where a president fond of spreading conspiracy theories gets his information.

The video was reshared on Monday by a Twitter account called Deep State Exposed, which is operated by Jeremy Stone, a follower of the QAnon conspiracy theory. Stone’s twitter bio includes the phrase “WWG1WGA,” shorthand for “Where We Go One We Go All,” a rallying cry for the bizarre theory that ties together the Pizzagate conspiracy and a supposed “deep state” plot to control American politics. Stone soon added a follow-up tweet to the viral video claiming that “TSA goes out of their way to hire high school dropouts with an inclination for sexual perversion. It’s mind control!!!”

On his Twitter feed, Stone regularly mixes fake Hillary Clinton quotes with truly odd conspiracies. The next clip posted after the video retweeted by the president was a piece of shaky cellphone footage suggesting that empty Walmarts are being used as “CONCENTRATION CAMPS SET TO HOUSE AMERICAN CITIZENS!!”

The Post, in defense of the TSA, goes on to lay out the agency’s comments on the incident.

“TSA allows for a pat-down of a teenage passenger, and in this case, all approved procedures were followed to resolve an alarm of the passenger’s laptop,” spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein told The Post at the time. “The passengers were at the checkpoint for approximately 45 minutes, which included the time it took to discuss screening procedures with the mother and to screen three carry-on items that required further inspection.”

Shortly after the invasive search occurred, radio station WIBX interviewed the mother.

One of the twists to this story is the condition Aaron Williamson lives with. He has been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). SPD is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses. After the incident Aaron could only keep repeating “What did I do wrong?” …

Williamson says, “I was appalled at how many times this man went over my son and how the back of his waistband was opened, his shirt was pulled up the back.” She goes on to claim that in the video, “you can see it appears the agent is looking down the back of his [her son’s] pants.”

Donald Trump Jr. also chimed in, calling the video “sickening.”

“This is sickening. I’m sure this young man could have been deemed to not be a threat in a matter of seconds. Wtf!” the president’s son wrote on Twitter.

Even though the video is two years old, look for it to be a around for a while — and who knows, maybe it’ll pop up again in, say, October of 2020?
