Two Million Jobs to China

The United States is reeling from seven straight months of job losses—many of them the good-paying jobs in the manufacturing sector that were once the staple of our economy. Meanwhile, the U.S. trade deficit with communist China has more than tripled since China entered the World Trade Organization, soaring to nearly $300 billion a year.

And as those U.S. dollars have gone to China, so have U.S. jobs. This country has lost more than 2.3 million jobs to China since 2001, according to a new study by the Economic Policy Institute. Adding salt to that wound: the small number of jobs that have replaced the ones shipped overseas pay less than the ones we lost.
