Two New York women — one of them a former city worker — have copped to a $7 million fake food stamp scam.
Alice Bradford, 50, of Brooklyn, and cohort Lois Johnson, 57, of Staten Island, pleaded guilty in Manhattan Federal Court today to a scheme that involved using mailing addresses to make up bogus food stamp cases, collecting the stamps and then selling them for cash.
Johnson, who had worked for the city’s Human Resources Administration, used fake food stamp cards that were mailed to her at a Mahattan post office box.
Bradford and Johnson used the public food stamp program as "a personal treasure trove of easy money."
Charges against two other defendants, Vanee Sykes and Tori Jackson, both former HRA workers, are pending.
