    Senators back no-retreat bill
    2/1/07

AUSTIN – Most senators announced their support Wednesday for a "Castle Doctrine" bill that would give Texans broad authority to use force – including deadly force – in protecting their homes, motor vehicles and places of employment.

The measure by Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, would reverse a state law passed in the mid-1970s that requires a person to attempt to retreat before using force against an intruder. Those who do not attempt to escape can be prosecuted – although Mr. Wentworth could not recall such a case in Texas.

Mr. Wentworth said 27 senators had signed on as co-sponsors for the bill.

We had that problem in Colorado and passed the 'make my day' law some time ago. I believe it only applies to homes, and if the intruder is unknown to you.

It would be nice to have that policy codified, but anyone who shoots an intruder on their property gets no-billed as a matter of course down here, even when the circumstances of the use of force are somewhat dubious.

I think Okla has the Make My Day law, never had cause to really find out, hope I never do! It wouldn't make any difference here though If someone was breaking in to your home, most homes around here have at least a shotgun and a rifle, lot have handguns also, guess that is why they call us rednecks.
