Texas tops in minority population

Texas has the top three areas with the highest minority populations in the nation, and Webb County comes in third on the list, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey.About 95 percent of Webb County residents belong to a minority group.
Starr County had the highest minority population in the country, with 98 percent. Maverick County in Texas came in second, at 97.
In all three counties, the majority of the population was Hispanic.
"The biggest factor, of course, is the border towns," said Gabriel Perales, media specialist for the Dallas Division of the U.S. Census Department. "We are closest to the border, and I can certainly suggest that that would have a part to play."
In 2008, the population of Texas was about 24.3 million people. About 8.87 million of that consisted of Hispanics. That works out to about 36.4 percent at the state level. The state was 53 percent minority, making it one of four states and the District of Columbia that are minority-majority states.
Webb County's estimated population was 236,941, and 224,088 of those were Hispanic, which works out to 94.58 percent.
The next highest ethnic group in the county is Anglo, with 4.57 percent of the population, or 10,836 people. After that, the highest percentage is Asian, with 0.41 percent, or 965 people.
California is "on the radar" as well for a high minority population, Perales said.
About 10 percent of the counties in the nation were minority-majority counties.
The number of counties with a minority majority decreases toward the eastern United States.
Border communities from Laredo to Brownsville have been predominantly Mexican-American as long as they've been part of the United States, according to Karl Eschbach of the University of Texas at San Antonio, who helped organize the data.
The only other places in the United States that compete in terms of the relative size of minority populations are other places in Texas, other border areas that also have large Mexican-American populations.
In fact, of the 48 majority-Hispanic counties that exist nationwide, the top 10 were in Texas.
However, California had the largest Hispanic population.
The United States performs a census every 10 years. Until recently, the census had a long form with many questions. It was cut back to seven questions to streamline the process and encourage people to fill out the census.
The American Community Survey has replaced the long form, but it will be performed every year, instead of every 10 years.
The sample size for the survey was more than 127,000 people.

TX. Texas tops
Everyone in Texas KNOWS we have been over run with Mexicans. This would not happen if immigration laws were enforced and our borders secured.
Apparently, "our" government officials see no problem with the takeover of America by Hispanics and will offer all illegals amnesty before the end of the year.
As a child, I remember a comment about America being taken over by another country without firing a shot. I thought at the time they meant a communist takeover by Russia......
