After a long day of searching for a job, Iraq War veteran, Jim Hardie, took a seat on a Thurston County bus in Washington. He never expected his bus ride to end this way.
He sat across from three thugs who started being disrespectful to everyone on the bus.
Instead of turning the other way, he looked directly at them and said something that set them off and eventually caused them to attack him.
He said, “Given the nature of what we’ve gone through with the word n***** it’s not appropriate to loosely throw that word around or refer to white women as white b***** and I’d appreciate if they stopped that.”
That’s when Jim says the group focused in on him. They started arguing with him and then started hitting him before jumping off the bus.
“I put myself at risk to protect everybody else. That’s what we do as people, I think,” he said.

People applauded him after and at the end of the day everyone on that bus was safer because Jim spoke up for what he thought was right.
Jim did not suffer any injuries and will continue to take the bus and look for a job.
