CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Authorities say a man who was found dead in Tijuana, Mexico, owned a Chinese restaurant in Chula Vista and lived in the San Diego suburb.

A spokesman for the U.S. consulate in Tijuana, Charles Smith, confirmed Wednesday that the victim was a legal resident of the United States.

Mexican authorities say Li Huang Liang may have been kidnapped in the United States and taken to Mexico.

Chula Vista police spokesman Bernard Gonzalez says his department has no evidence to suggest that. He says the victim was last seen at his restaurant around 10 p.m. Sunday.

The beaten body was discovered Monday inside a 2006 Lexus with California license plates at a Tijuana industrial park.
