United, Boeing unveil blockbuster 737 order worth billions

United has officially announced a plan to buy 150 new Boeing 737s, which the carrier will use to phase out older, less -efficient planes.

The Associated Press writes:
The order announced Thursday is a win for Boeing, which has been hoping to boost orders for its new 737 Max.

The planes would be worth more than $14 billion at list prices, although big airlines like United don't pay list prices.

Among the jets in the 150-plane order, 100 are for Boeing's new 737 MAX-9 – the company's latest version of its best-selling model. Those planes will start being delivered to United in 2018.

Additionally, United also ordered 50 current-version 737-900ERs, which will begin joining the carrier's fleet later next year.
