The US Has Become A Worse Police State Than Orwell Could Imagine

The United States pretends to be a home of freedom and democracy. In fact, the US is rapidly degenerating into a police state and a worse dystopia than George Orwell imagined in his book, 1984.

John W. Whitehead describes below the prison that is being constructed for all of us. This prison is the work of many of our fellow citizens including scientists and entrepreneurs who have gained fame and fortune creating a prison for mankind. What were they thinking as they threw their energy and their lives into constructing a police state dystopia?

Putting Big Brother in the Driver’s Seat: V2V Transmitters, Black Boxes & Drones

    By John W. Whitehead

“It’s a future where you don’t forget anything…In this new future you’re never lost…We will know your position down to the foot and down to the inch over time…Your car will drive itself, it’s a bug that cars were invented before computers…you’re never lonely…you’re never bored…you’re never out of ideas… We can suggest where you go next, who to meet, what to read…What’s interesting about this future is that it’s for the average person, not just the elites.”—Google CEO Eric Schmidt on his vision of the future

Time to buckle up your seatbelts, folks. You’re in for a bumpy ride.

We’re hurtling down a one-way road toward the Police State at mind-boggling speeds, the terrain is getting more treacherous by the minute, and we’ve passed all the exit ramps. From this point forward, there is no turning back, and the signpost ahead reads “Danger.”

Indeed, as I document in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, we’re about to enter a Twilight Zone of sorts, one marked by drones, smart phones, GPS devices, smart TVs, social media, smart meters, surveillance cameras, facial recognition software, online banking, license plate readers and driverless cars—all part of the interconnected technological spider’s web that is life in the American police state, and every new gadget pulls us that much deeper into the sticky snare.

In this Brave New World awaiting us, there will be no communication not spied upon, no movement untracked, no thought unheard. In other words, there will be nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

We’re on the losing end of a technological revolution that has already taken hostage our computers, our phones, our finances, our entertainment, our shopping, our appliances, and now, it’s focused its sights on our cars. As if the government wasn’t already able to track our movements on the nation’s highways and byways by way of satellites, GPS devices, and real-time traffic cameras, government officials are now pushing to require that all new vehicles come installed with black box recorders and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, ostensibly to help prevent crashes.

Yet strip away the glib Orwellian doublespeak, and what you will find is that these black boxes and V2V transmitters, which will not only track a variety of data, including speed, direction, location, the number of miles traveled, and seatbelt use, but will also transmit this data to other drivers, including the police, are little more than Trojan Horses, stealth attacks on our last shreds of privacy, sold to us as safety measures for the sake of the greater good, all the while poised to wreak havoc on our lives.

Black boxes and V2V transmitters are just the tip of the iceberg, though. The 2015 Corvette Stingray will be outfitted with a performance data recorder which “uses a camera mounted on the windshield and a global positioning receiver to record speed, gear selection and brake force,” but also provides a recording of the driver’s point of view as well as recording noises made inside the car. As journalist Jaclyn Trop reports for the New York Times, “Drivers can barely make a left turn, put on their seatbelts or push 80 miles an hour without their actions somehow, somewhere being tracked or recorded.” Indeed, as Jim Farley, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Ford Motor Company all but admitted, corporations and government officials already have a pretty good sense of where you are at all times: “We know everyone who breaks the law, we know when you’re doing it. We have GPS in your car, so we know what you’re doing.”

Now that the government and its corporate partners-in-crime know where you’re going and how fast you’re going when in your car, the next big hurdle will be to know how many passengers are in your car, what contraband might be in your car (and that will largely depend on whatever is outlawed at the moment, which could be anything from Sudafed cold medicine to goat cheese), what you’re saying and exactly what you’re doing within the fiberglass and steel walls of your vehicle. That’s where drones come in.

Once drones take to the skies en masse in 2015, there will literally be no place where government agencies and private companies cannot track your movements. These drones will be equipped with cameras that provide a live video feed, as well as heat sensors, radar and thermal imaging devices capable of seeing through the walls of your car. Some will be capable of peering at figures from 20,000 feet up and 25 miles away. They will be outfitted with infrared cameras and radar which will pierce through the darkness. They can also keep track of 65 persons of interest at once. Some drones are already capable of hijacking Wi-Fi networks and intercepting electronic communications such as text messages. The Army has developed drones with facial recognition software, as well as drones that can complete a target-and-kill mission without any human instruction or interaction. These are the ultimate killing and spying machines. There will also be drones armed with “less-lethal” weaponry, including bean bag guns and tasers.
And of course all of this information, your every movement—whether you make a wrong move, or appear to be doing something suspicious, even if you don’t do anything suspicious, the information of your whereabouts, including what stores and offices you visit, what political rallies you attend, and what people you meet—will be tracked, recorded and streamed to a government command center, where it will be saved and easily accessed at a later date.
By the time you add self-driving cars into the futuristic mix, equipped with computers that know where you want to go before you do, you’ll be so far down the road to Steven Spielberg’s vision of the future as depicted in Minority Report that privacy and autonomy will be little more than distant mirages in your rearview mirror. The film, set in 2054 and based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, offered movie audiences a special effect-laden techno-vision of a futuristic world in which the government is all-seeing, all-knowing and all-powerful. And if you dare to step out of line, dark-clad police SWAT teams will bring you under control.

Mind you, while critics were dazzled by the technological wonders displayed in Minority Report, few dared to consider the consequences of a world in which Big Brother is, literally and figuratively, in the driver’s seat. Even the driverless cars in Minority Report answer to the government’s (and its corporate cohorts’) bidding.

Likewise, we are no longer autonomous in our own cars. Rather, we are captive passengers being chauffeured about by a robotic mind which answers to the government and its corporate henchmen. Soon it won’t even matter whether we are seated behind the wheel of our own vehicles, because it will be advertisers and government agents calling the shots.

Case in point: devices are now being developed for European cars that would allow police to stop a car remotely, ostensibly to end police chases. Google is partnering with car manufacturers in order to integrate apps and other smartphone-like technology into vehicles, in order to alert drivers to deals and offers at nearby businesses. As Patrick Lin, professor of Stanford’s School of Engineering, warns, in a world where third-party advertisers and data collectors control a good deal of the content we see on a daily basis, we may one day literally be driven to businesses not because we wanted to go there, but because someone paid for us to be taken there.

Rod Serling, creator of the beloved sci fi series Twilight Zone and one of the most insightful commentators on human nature, once observed, “We’re developing a new citizenry. One that will be very selective about cereals and automobiles, but won’t be able to think.”

Indeed, not only are we developing a new citizenry incapable of thinking for themselves, we’re also instilling in them a complete and utter reliance on the government and its corporate partners to do everything for them—tell them what to eat, what to wear, how to think, what to believe, how long to sleep, who to vote for, whom to associate with, and on and on.

In this way, we have created a welfare state, a nanny state, a police state, a surveillance state, an electronic concentration camp—call it what you will, the meaning is the same: in our quest for less personal responsibility, a greater sense of security, and no burdensome obligations to each other or to future generations, we have created a society in which we have no true freedom.

Pandora’s Box has been opened and there’s no way to close it. As Rod Serling prophesied in a Commencement Address at the University of Southern California in March 17, 1970:

“It’s simply a national acknowledgement that in any kind of priority, the needs of human beings must come first. Poverty is here and now. Hunger is here and now. Racial tension is here and now. Pollution is here and now. These are the things that scream for a response. And if we don’t listen to that scream – and if we don’t respond to it – we may well wind up sitting amidst our own rubble, looking for the truck that hit us – or the bomb that pulverized us. Get the license number of whatever it was that destroyed the dream. And I think we will find that the vehicle was registered in our own name.”

You can add the following to that list of needs requiring an urgent response: Police abuse is here and now. Surveillance is here and now. Imperial government is here and now. Yet while the vehicle bearing down upon us is indeed registered in our own name, we’ve allowed Big Brother to get behind the wheel, and there’s no way to put the brakes on this runaway car.

    America Today Parallels NAZI Germany

    Tony Elliott 2 hours ago

The resemblance of America, today, parallels that of NAZI Germany in almost every way. We got to this point beginning with the George H. W. Bush Administration's vision of a New World Order. Shortly after the unnecessary first Gulf War, in the guise of liberating Kuwait from the evil Iraqi forces of Saddam Hussein, who was previously considered a friend to the US during the Reagan Administration. Immediately after the war, George H. W. Bush proclaimed his vision of a New World Order and signed the United Nations' Agenda 21 which literally gave away any form of sovereignty as an independent country the US had to the UN.

Since 9-11, and the resulting Patriot Act went into effect, we have witnessed the door opened for a complete Socialistic Dictatorship to rule over the American people, as we now see with the Obama Administration. We as a country have allowed NAZISM to gain such a hold on our society that nothing short of armed revolution by the American people will stop it.

The definition of NAZI is, "The ideology and practice of the Nazis, especially the policy of racist nationalism, national expansion, and state control of the economy."

In today's America, we have the Federal government expanding into every aspect of our society. We also have racial tensions created by the government itself, in hopes of keeping us divided.

Since the George W. Bush Administration, we have had the Federal government expand more than it ever had previously, since 1776. Since the Obama Administration seized power, we have witnessed the government taking complete control over every aspect of our lives and through such laws as the National Defense Authorization Act and others. This growth of the federal government includes the countless Executive Orders Obama has signed, making him essentially a Supreme Dictator with complete power over the people.

We also have the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care) which gives the government total access to all personal information of all Americans. This was the goal in the first place, since anyone poor enough to need Obama Care, couldn't afford it. Thus, it really never was about health care but control and the excuse for the government to pry into our personal information.

To get a concrete picture of just how this country now resembles NAZI Germany, comparisons must be made between the two countries.

    1. NAZI Germany was a Tyrannic state where the government monitored everything German citizens did and said.

Today in America, via the Patriot Act, we now have everything we do and say monitored. The NSA and CIA monitor all domestic phone usage, internet activity, personal bank accounts, as well as know our every move and conversations by having cameras and audio devices at every street corner.

    1. NAZI officials used to get great joy at forcing citizens to morally degrade themselves.

Now, in America we have the TSA pat us down, perform body cavity searches when the slightest suspicion is aroused, run us through body scanners, feel up and nude scan our children, confiscate personal belongings, and demand papers proving who you are.

    1. Hitler removed Easter in the school system and honored that time of year as the beginning of spring.

    Sound familiar?

    1. Hitler promoted environmentalism and was a vegetarian.

Currently in America, we have radical environmentalism, the worship of Mother earth, and celebrate Earth Day.

    1. NAZI's killed some 270,000 handicapped and mentally ill people by euthanasia.

We are poised to do the same on a massive scale through Obama Care.

    1. Hitler prevented anyone with an opposing view on the airwaves.

Today, we have countless bills from the past to present, designed to limit free speech. Currently, we have the Hate Crime Reporting Act on the table, which seeks to severely limit opposing views to the Administration.

    1. NAZI Germany had the SS.

In America, we currently have Homeland Security, which would be completely unnecessary, if it weren't simply for keeping an eye on and controlling US citizens.

    1. In NAZI Germany, government regulation of business was grossly out of control.

The same exists here in America today.

    1. In NAZI Germany, gun control was a main issue.
    2. Christians were mocked and made fun of during that time.
    3. NAZI German Deficit was intentionally kept high to induce reliance on the government through social programs.

In America, we currently have the largest deficit ever with no end in sight, and more people out of work than during the Great Depression; making dependence on the government essential to millions.

We also have the Illegal Immigration issue, responsible for the collapse of the job market since millions of people who do not belong here are taking what jobs there are from actual citizens. Yet, another ploy to keep us dependent on the government.

I could go on providing hundreds of examples that demonstrate the similarities, but one thing is clear: American citizens have been duped into accepting a return of NAZISM in the guise of safety.

It has never been our safety and security the government is interested in. It has been knowing our every move, with a plan to controlling us when the time comes, where we will have had enough of it all and take up arms to restore our country to a Constitutional government.

The primary objective of the NSA, CIA, TSA, Homeland Security, etc.is to protect the country from enemies. However, they only are interested in spying on, and scrutinizing American citizens. This fact lets us know who they think the real enemy is.

Trooper Who Probed Women’s Genitals During Traffic Stop Pleads Guilty, Will Serve No Jail Time

    By DEBORAH HASTINGS

A fired Texas state trooper — who made national headlines after a dash cam video went viral showing her conducting genital probes during a routine traffic stop – pleaded guilty to criminal charges on Friday.
Kelly Helleson, 34, admitted to two counts of official repression in exchange for prosecutors dropping sexual assault charges against her. She was sentenced Friday to two years of probation.

The trooper was fired last year after a graphic 2012 dash cam video of a traffic stop in the Dallas area showed Helleson donning blue gloves and inserting her fingers into the vaginas and rectums of Angel Dobbs and her niece, Ashley Dobbs, after they were pulled over for allegedly throwing lighted cigarettes out of their car’s windows.
Angel Dobbs testified Friday she felt sexually assaulted during the disturbing interlude. Helleson had been summoned to the 2012 scene by trooper David Farrell, who said he smelled marijuana in the car. No illegal substances were found.

KTXA-TV Dash cam footage shows Ashley Dobbs, 24, with former Texas state trooper Kelley Hellenson, who conducted body cavity searches on two women after a traffic stop for allegedly throwing cigarettes out of the car's windows. No ticket was issued.
During the probes, Dobbs told the Dallas court, she was thinking "Oh my God, did she just do that?" according to KXAS-TV.
Farrell was suspended, but not indicted over the invasive searches.
Farrell is back on active duty, the Texas Department of Public Safety told the Daily News in an email. He had been accused of theft over a bottle of prescription pain pills reported missing from the women's vehicle, but a grand jury declined to indict him. He was returned to full duty last September.

Helleson apologized in court, saying she was only doing what she was trained to do.
The women sued the department, saying they were violated and their health endangered because Helleson did not change gloves at any point during the rectal and vaginal searches of both women.
The suit was settled for $185,000.

A similar case in Houston produced far different results. Trooper Jennie Bui was fired last year over nearly identical allegations — two women pulled over for a traffic stop were strip-searched on the side of the road and the humiliating incident was captured on dash cam video.
A grand jury declined to indict her, saying she was only following the orders of Trooper Nathaniel Turner, who summoned her to the scene. Bui has been reinstated. Turner was fired.

No Justice: No Charges Filed After Mentally Ill Inmate Scalded To Death In ‘Punishment Shower’

    May 28, 2014

A Florida inmate was taken to the shower room as punishment for pooping in his cell and refusing to clean it up. Left under scalding hot water unattended for over an hour, he died a horrific death.
Darren Rainey had a history of mental illness and was serving a 2-year stint for possession of cocaine at the Dade Correctional Institution when the incident occurred.
At one point, according to a fellow inmate serving as an orderly on the wing, Rainey began yelling over and over again, “I can’t take it no more, I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”
Yet despite his obvious distress, the guards did not answer his pleas, nor did they return to check in on him.

When they did come back over an hour later, they found the 50-year-old’s body lying on shower room floor – his skin so badly damaged by the water it shriveled away from his body, according to a post-mortem report.
    [...]
Yet, despite the horrific nature of the mentally ill prisoner’s death and available witness testimony in the matter, nearly two years after Rainey was scalded during a punishment shower, serious questions remain unanswered in the case and no guards have been implicated in his death.
Instead, any investigation into the likely homicide has been halted until the medical examiner completes a full autopsy – still not complete two years later.

Audit NYPD! Activists Demand Answers After News Of Police Spying On Political Groups

    May 28, 2014

Following the news that the New York Police Department sent undercover officers to monitor political organizations, multiple activist groups are looking for an audit of the department’s wide-ranging surveillance program.

The complaint has been filed with the NYPD’s new office of the inspector general, which the City Council created against the wishes of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg in order to oversee the police department’s policies – particularly in light of criticism regarding its stop-and-frisk tactics and surveillance of Muslim communities.

According to the New York Times, the groups are calling for a comprehensive investigation into the NYPD’s intelligence division, which has been operating the police force’s surveillance program for years. The move comes as the groups seek more transparency from police following the election of new Mayor Bill de Blasio, whose administration they believe will be supportive.

“We need tangible, concrete proposals of how we can ensure the NYPD does not target an entire group, set of groups, or political activists in general based on their participation in political advocacy,” the complaint reads.

Although most of the parties involved were not named, the Times revealed that one of the organizations behind the complaint is Friends of Brad Will – a group dedicated to increasing public awareness of human rights abuses connected to the “War on Drugs.”
