Remington Arms moving 2,000+ jobs from NY to Alabama

Remington Arms moving 2,000+ jobs from NY to Alabama

High level sources have informed Yellowhammer News that Remington, one of the world’s largest gun manufacturers, will on Monday join Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley in announcing that they are moving jobs from their largest manufacturing facility in New York to Alabama.

Remington’s Ilion, NY plant currently employees around 1,200 people. It will likely stay open, but with a greatly reduced workforce. Sources say the company will be bringing over 2,000 jobs with them to Alabama with an estimated impact on Alabama’s economy of $87 million.

According to Remington’s website, the company designs, produces and sells sporting goods products for the hunting and shooting sports markets, as well as military, government and law enforcement markets. Founded in 1816 in upstate New York, the Company is one of the nation’s oldest continuously operating manufacturers. Remington is the only U.S. manufacturer of both firearms and ammunition products and one of the largest domestic producers of shotguns and rifles. The Company distributes its products throughout the U.S. and in over 55 foreign countries.

Remington first began considering relocating after the New York legislature passed the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act in response to the tragic shootings in Newtown, Conn. In addition to banning magazines that contain more than seven rounds and requiring instant background checks on ammo purchases, the NY SAFE Act broadened the definition of so-called “assault weapons” to include a wide range of guns, including the Bushmaster, which was being manufactured at Remington’s New York plant.

Almost half the states in the country have made pitches to Remington, included Arizona, Oklahoma, Michigan, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. But in the end, the company chose Huntsville, Ala.

The optics could not be worse for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who told WCNY radio host Susan Arbetter about a month ago that “extreme conservatives” who are “right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay,” have “no place in the state of New York.”

Gov. Bentley and Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard both immediately responded to Cuomo’s comments.

“In Alabama we strongly support and uphold our great U.S. Constitution on which our nation and our states were founded,” Bentley told Yellowhammer. “The Constitution serves to protect individual Freedoms. Among them are those guaranteed in the Second Amendment, which protects the right of the people to keep and bear Arms. We will protect the Freedoms of individuals and welcome any one or any company to Alabama to discover as so many have, that we are a pro-business state filled with good, hardworking people.”

“If he doesn’t want hard working pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment people in his state, we will gladly take them here in Alabama,” Speaker Hubbard added.
It looks like that’s exactly what is happening.

SOURCE: REMINGTON OUTDOOR CO. TO ANNOUNCE EXPANSION IN ALABAMA

    by AWR HAWKINS
    15 Feb 2014,

Sources indicate renowned rifle, shotgun, and ammunition maker Remington Outdoor Co. will announce the acquisition of a new facility in Alabama on Monday.

The Military Times indicates the approximately "500,000-square-foot facility" is in Huntsville, AL and will "add nearly 25 percent more space to Remington's existing 2.1 million square feet of...manufacturing real estate." The new facility will be "used for product development and manufacturing," but will reportedly also have rooms and "an auditorium" for "training and development purposes."

The Alabama site will be one of Remington's largest, along with its Ilion, NY facility (1 million square feet), "its ammunition plant in Lonoke, Ark., and its factory in Mayfield, KY."

Remington considered at least 24 other states and various locations within those states before settling on Huntsville, AL. Huntsville is also home to "NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and Toyota."

A source close to Remington told Breitbart News that are a lot of stories breaking about the new facility, many of which are wrong. Our source assured us it is "a major facility" and barring unforeseen events an official announcement will be made Monday.

Breitbart News will provide new details following the announcement.

Muck New York; let the state collapse from within; I have ZERO sympathy for the people that elected these broke ass politicians. This state can no longer protect itself, nor should it have the well paying jobs to help feed itself

Remington shifts jobs from N.Y. to Alabama

    NEW YORK (CNNMoney)

Remington is reducing its work force in New York, where the gun maker has operated a factory for nearly 200 years, and where new gun laws are in the spotlight.

Company spokesman Teddy Novin said Remington is cutting 105 jobs from its workforce in Ilion, N.Y. He said that some, but not all, of those jobs are moving to Alabama, but he wouldn't say how many. Novin cited a consolidation of its production facilities and a softening market for the move.
Remington wouldn't say whether state laws affected its decision. New York imposes certain restrictions on guns, such as limiting magazines to 10 rounds, that do not occur in other parts of the country.
The state passed even further restrictions last year, following the 2012 slaying of 20 students and six adults at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school. However, a federal judge blocked Gov. Andrew Cuomo from restricting bullet capacity to seven rounds.
Among the weapons made by Remington is the Bushmaster, a semiautomatic rifle that accepts 30-round magazines. They are permitted in Alabama, but not in New York.
Remington and the Bushmaster brand are owned by the Freedom Group.
Prior to the work force reduction, Remington employed between 1,200 and 1,300 workers in Ilion. The company bought a factory in Huntsville, Ala., in February.
Gun sales have flattened this year, after a nearly two-year boom following President Obama's re-election. The biggest rise and fall occurred with military-style semiautomatic rifles, which would have faced further restrictions under assault rifle legislation proposed by the President. But the legislation didn't pass Congress, deflating the gun buying frenzy.
