    WA DEMS SPONSOR BILL ALLOWING POLICE TO SEARCH GUNOWNERS' HOMES

    WA DEMS SPONSOR BILL ALLOWING POLICE TO SEARCH GUNOWNERS' HOMES

    by BEN SHAPIRO 18 Feb 2013, 1:19 PM PDT 423 POST A COMMENT

    In a mistake that probably wasn’t a mistake, a Washington state bill sponsored by liberal Democrats contained a little-noticed provision that would have called for the police to have the right to search private citizens’ home once per year if they own certain types of guns. According to Senate Bill 5737:

    In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall ... safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection.

    In other words, kiss the Fourth Amendment goodbye. Liberal lawmakers behind the bill claim they have no knowledge of the provision – which, of course, begs the question as to how the provision got into the bill in the first place. “I have to admit it shouldn’t be in there,” said Sen. Ed Murray (D-Seattle). “I made a mistake,” said Sen. Adam Kline (D-Seattle). “I frankly should have vetted this more closely.”

    This was likely no mistake. It’s hard to believe that a bill could advance this far without anyone reading it for such an obvious violation of Constitutional principles. But in an age of ever-bigger government and ever-smaller rights, anything is possible.

    PLEASE, they're not searches. Let’s call them inspections, just a small price for gun owners to pay for exercising a right protected in the Constitution, and without any warranted cause apparent for a crime being committed. Just because they can (Not In My House). After all, we know that will convince criminals not to keep weapons, right? Right?

    Forget police drones flying over your house. How about police coming inside, once a year, to have a look around?

    As Orwellian as that sounds, it isn’t hypothetical. The notion of police home inspections was introduced in a bill last week in Olympia.

    That it’s part of one of the major gun-control efforts pains me. It seemed in recent weeks lawmakers might be headed toward some common-sense regulation of gun sales. But then last week they went too far. By mistake, they claim. But still too far.

    “They always say, we’ll never go house to house to take your guns away. But then you see this, and you have to wonder.”

    Even the WA. gun-control activists are showing signs of Ostrich Syndrome (Head in the sand) by this, er, mistake (via Instapundit):

    `````````````````````````````````````````````````` ````````````````````````````````````````````
    Let them try warrant-less searches. They’ll make a nut like Alex Jones with his “it’ll be 1776 all over again” rant into freaking Nostradamus.
    I never thought I would see the day where we have to defend our civil rights line-by-line in the Constitution.
    We are turning into Nazi Germany.
    They have this all wrong. If they want to find illegally owned guns they need to kick the doors down of everyone without a registered gun. And if you inform on a neighbor during the inspection you will get a pass on the universal common sense comprehensive boot to the face.
    Remember just a few weeks ago liberals were making fun of anyone who was concerned about the government going into their homes to take away their guns?
    The only mistake these guys made was not burying so far in another bill that people found out before it could be passed.
    The Gestapo is coming.
    All gun owners will have special tags to be worn on their person & on their licenses & license plates…..
    And while sheriffs are running around checking on legal guns, criminals with illegal ones can run free doing their thing while law enforcement is busy elsewhere.
    {pt is called a gateway drug. Pot is legal in some states now. So, how about there be inspections to make sure a user has only pot and nothing else, and that it’s safely kept away from everyone under age 18.
    These gun grabbers are sounding pretty desperate lately.
    Not desperate. Empowered. A compliant media has been spewing the lie that the majority of Americans want this draconian behavior vis guns.
    I wonder whether the point exists at which people realize that the cops who follow order like that are no better than politicians who issue them, and organize armed resistance. Were Nuremberg Tribunals for nothing? Following orders is not an excuse.
