Letter:The GOP Shouldn't Abandon its Base

The GOP shouldn't abandon its base
The writer of the recent column "Republicans must create new Republican Party" apparently assumes the false premise that many have left the Republican Party due to extreme conservative principles. To the contrary, far too many have left the party due to the liberal wing bowing to the pressures of political correctness, compromise and coexistence.
For too many years we have heard this same rhetoric from so-called Republicans that we must move across the aisle and abandon many of the core conservative principles. What has happened in the meantime and is the case all too often is that the ones asked to compromise core values and the ones to lose out are the Christian conservatives. While this has occurred, we find a government now trying to micro-manage the economy and eventually infringe further upon our personal and cooperative freedoms.
Why would anyone think big government could effectively manage our economy when it has robbed Social Security, spent us into oblivion, dumbed down our children, encouraged illegal immigration, created a dependence upon foreign oil, created the housing debacle, and stamped the approval on 40 million abortions?
Given that our country as a whole is center right on conservative principles, perhaps the more appropriate solution for the Republican Party would be to suggest the liberal wing join the liberals across the aisle and encourage conservative Democrats to join a new and invigorated party dedicated to saving our country and the remaining freedoms we still enjoy.
